Gallup: Bush Approval Rating Lowest Ever for 2nd-Term Prez at this Point

By E&P Staff

NEW YORK It's not uncommon to hear or read pundits referring to President George W. Bush as a "popular" leader or even a "very popular" one. Even some of his critics in the press refer to him this way. Perhaps they need to check the latest polls.

President Bush's approval rating has plunged to the lowest level of any president since World War II at this point in his second term, the Gallup Organization reported today.

All other presidents who served a second term had approval ratings well above 50% in the March following their election, Gallup reported.

Presidents Truman and Johnson had finished out the terms of their predecessors, and then won election on their own for a second term.

Bush's current rating is 45%. The next lowest was Reagan with 56% in March 1985.

4. Media always referred to him as popular before the election when his polls
were between 45-49% approval. They pushed that lie no matter what. They NEEDED Bush to look like a popular winner. BBV did the rest.

7. It is worse than you think.
Also today:
Same theme but, got me flamed by the one Catholic poster.

The criticism is of Bush people! Not the Pontiff.

8. Polls drive me nuts because they can be narrow in scope
Look, I don't like Chimpy but you're talking about a poll based on 3 days of data that compares results of the March after the election. Jesus Christ, whats the next poll? This poll was done 3 days after a full moon that coincided with Venus arising at its earliest time of the year.

"PRINCETON, NJ -- Last week's CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll measured the lowest job approval rating of George W. Bush's presidency to date -- 45%, one point lower than his previous low. While not good news for Bush, there are some silver linings for him in that other presidents' lowest approval ratings were much lower and that Bush's average rating while in office remains among the most positive for recent presidents. Nevertheless, Bush's public support is significantly lower than support for all other two-term presidents at similar points in their second terms.
Even though Bush's approval rating has hit a personal low, it is still relatively high by historical standards when compared to other presidents at their low points. In fact, Bush's low rating is higher than the lows of all other recent presidents except John Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower. Four presidents hit bottom below the 30% approval level -- Harry Truman (23%), Richard Nixon (24%), Jimmy Carter (28%), and the elder George Bush (29%). Four others bottomed out below 40% -- Lyndon Johnson (35%), Gerald Ford (37%), Ronald Reagan (35%), and Bill Clinton (37%). Kennedy's low point was 56%; Eisenhower's, 49%.

People, get some perspective and use meaningful data. Damn!:banghead:

9. doesn't the anti Christ show up in year7
why should someone who stole both terms, have more than a 45% rating?
he never has and never will have the majority.

10. Russert came on NBC Nightly News tonite
to hilight their latest poll which showed Bush down from 50% to 48% approval, against 46% disapproval up from 45%.

My thought on the reason he did this, with this particular polling breakdown, is that:

1) 48% is the most generous take on Bush's latest drop in the polls
2) 46% against that is their way of showing he's still more popular than unpopular

Russert's commentary was that Bush's (slight) weakness is the reason gridlock will continue - translated: it's the excuse that Democrats are using for obstructing the noble workings of the Social Security privatizers.
