My best friend heard a black, female commentator say that, the fact that there was no outcry over MJ having an all-white jury was because blacks have no sympathy for Michael. Child molestation is so abhorrent to the black community that they don't care if MJ is convicted or not. She implied that an overwhelming majority of child molestation is committed by white males.

My immediate reaction was "bullshit". I would expect percentage of molestation to be approximately equal in white, black, Hispanic, Asian and all other ethnic groups.

Is he right or am I? I've done a search and can't find any statistics. Appreciate any help.

I sat on a grand jury one day every other week for six months some years ago, and most of the cases involved child molestation (drug trafficking was a close second). Based on that admittedly limited sampling, child molesters and other freakazoids seem to come in all colors of the rainbow.

6. The black community (generally speaking) doesn't talk about

child molestation, except to say mostly white men do it. That's why you don't hear more about black men molesting kids. It's really about ignoring the problem. Unfortunately, the children don't have family members to tell when they've been molested because people pretend it doesn't happen.

(I'm speaking in generalities. This was the case years ago. This perception might be changing now. When I was growing up, it was virtually ignored or the child was blamed.)

I'd assume the proclivity's the same cross racially, but since white men tend to be in positions of power (no pun intended) more frequently than black men, I'd think they'd have more opportunity to abuse that power.

Blacks go to prison long-term for crack cocaine, whites get probation for powder cocaine. I agree with that point.

Prosecution and punishment always falls overwhelmingly on minorities and the poor.

are a lot like serial killers in that they tend to stick to their own race when killing or molesting. I haven't been able to find the original source for that, but if it is true, that might account for statistics that could be interpreted as showing more white males as molesters than blacks.

Unfortunately, we live in a culture where there is a legacy of racism. We tend to hear more about white kids being molested (and if their molesters are white, it follows that we hear more about white molesters).

Another possible reason for disparity in molestation statistics between blacks and whites is that whites are more likely to contact police and file reports. There is still a great deal of distruct between blacks and police, so there may be more molestations that go unreported in the black community.

They refer to him as "Dave the black guy" the joke being that he is their one black listener. He faxed one of the guys a certificate indicating that he was bestowing blackness upon him, because he'd said something nice about BET, which Dave said some black folks don't even do. Dave explained that blackness can be bestowed, as in the case of Tiger Woods, or taken away, as in the case of Michael Jackson.

He was joking of course. But it make me wonder about how black folk feel about Michael. Just the fact that he seems to be bleaching himself says that he's not all that thrilled to be black himself. Unless of course he really does have a skin condition.

I was talking abou this to someone in a coffee shop last night. We decided three things about Michael:
1 Innocent until proven guilty.
2 Not having a childhood warped him, as he keeps trying to reclaim it.
3 There is reasonable doubt that he was a molestor, and he may be acquitted, but the stigma will follow him nontheless.

I had thought this to be true to. Perhaps because I think serial killers are usually white. However when I was checking my states (In) child molester list, I was surprised to find mostly blacks on it. I wondered at that time if that meant that more blacks actually do the crime or if it means that more blacks get caught or perhaps just more get found guilty.

the USA. in fact the overwhelming majority of crimes of all kinds are by christians in the USA. of course that might be because the majority of people in the USA claim to be ...i said claim to be....christians. so the statistics might follow the percentage of the population.

no data on muslims or jews or atheists or other belief systems.
