Once again- if the State says no, just legislate it under Federal control
Being from Delaware and watching New Jersey inviting all sorts of chemical projects to dump into our shared river - I should have realized the republicans in congress wouldn't stand for the state courts saying NO.

This situation involves BP wanting to put a liquefied natural gas terminal in Jersy but Delaware doesn't want it and we own the part of the river they want to use. (Near populated area, I should mention.)

Repubs in Congress legislate to allow Federal override of State decision on LNG terminal

U.S. may get final say on gas terminal

Federal regulators would get clearer authority to override state and local opposition in approving import terminals for liquefied natural gas under new energy legislation drafted by House Republicans.

The bill, which lawmakers are to begin considering in detail today, mirrors a broad energy package that failed to pass Congress more than a year ago. One of the few new provisions would solidify the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as the final arbiter over approval of liquefied natural gas terminals.

A state appeals board in Delaware last week upheld the state's refusal to consider a permit for a liquefied natural gas delivery pier in the Delaware River opposite Claymont. The Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board rejected energy company BP's claim that its $500 million project should be exempt from the state's ban on bulk transfer facilities in Delaware's part of the river.

A state appeals board on Wednesday upheld Delaware's refusal to consider a permit for a liquefied natural gas delivery pier along the Delaware River opposite Claymont.

The Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board's 6-0 vote rejected energy giant BP's claim that its $500 million project should be exempt from the state's ban on bulk transfer facilities in Delaware's part of the river.

2. What an accident would look like - "blisters 1.3 miles away."
"A study commissioned by the Department of Energy found that an intentional breaching of a tankerload of liquefied natural gas could release vapors flammable at a distance of more than 2 miles, or could trigger a fire that would cause blisters 1.3 miles away."

As a local girl with family ties still living near the few remaining scenic parts of the river, can you guess how that statement felt?!
