I would like to see the Minuteman out here in the middle of July!
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 01:50 PM by rene moon
When it's really hot---the desert gets at at least, 115 degrees. It is brutal here in the summer. The heat will kill you.

Over 200 undocumented immigrants died last summer in the AZ desert. And most of them died on Tohono O'odham Nation (TON) land, which stretches about 75 miles. Others were found in Organ Pipe National Monument.

None of these so-called "patriots" COULD NOT stand such harsh measures. I cant, and I am a native!

The reason they are here now because the weather is nice, though we are going to hit 90 degrees tomorrow. After the month of April, they'll scatter like flies.

Plus, the people coming across know that they are down there in Cochise County, so they are moving west, toward TON land
and national monument land.

The Border Patrol and drug smugglers has disturbed the environment in Organ Pipe more than the undocumented have!

If they are so intent on saving America, please by all means, stay through the summer----you see how it really is.

1. The responses on the other threads were disgusting
I don't know how any of these so-called Democrats could defend a punch of confederate-flag-waving vigilantes!

4. I think the problem is that there are two issues getting mixed up
1. Are illegal immigrants a real problem?

2. Is what these guys are doing a valid or smart way to protest?

It seems that many on here believe that Illegal Immigration isn't a problem, or isn't that big a problem, or is only a problem because we are racists and don't want any more brown people coming into this country. I personally don't agree, I think that Illegal Immigration is a serious problem.

Does that mean I am required to support this minute men protest? No, I think it's largely crap. I might agree with them that this is a problem that we need to do more about, but disagree with this foolish and boneheaded tactic.

14. Kudos!
I say that as a first generation immigrant who didn't break into this country illegally.

A crack down on corporations who reap the benefits of slave labor is also in order.

long way to protecting America than keeping a few illegals out.

6. We've gotta break firms and corporations who use illegal immigrants
This is simply unsustainable for both Mexican and US citizens. They've got us fighting each other for money and jobs, when we should be turning our attention toward the owners of these corporations and smaller businesses who willingly break the law. We need to mercilessly attack private firms and corporations who use illegal immigrants. A systematic program of tracking down these companies and hitting them with heavy fines and prison time should do much to help dry up the demand for illegal immigrant workers, and we need to go after folks who turn out forged documents and make it harder to forge things such as SS cards.

8. I've said this on a previous thread, but I'll say it again:
I'll bet anything that if these "Minutemen" were asked to donate their time (to Border Patrol) monitoring computer screens, helping fill out paperwork, or doing other such menial but necessary tasks, the majority of them would quickly get bored, lose interest, and go home.

15. Not many Canadians are trying to enter the US illegally.
So what's your point?

If it's that Mexico needs to address the plight of it's citizens, I wholeheartedly agree.

If the UN needs to jump in with humanitarian aid for Mexico, I'm all for it. Why hasn't this mass extinction of Mexicans been addressed by the UN? Why isn't the world coming together to help these poor people?

If your point is that anyone who supports immigration laws, and wants these laws enforced is a racist, you are sadly mistaken.

Do you advocate open borders? Then start a movement to annex Mexico. I don't even have a problem with that.

What I do have a problem with is people breaking laws.

Think a law is bad? Petition to change it. But follow it while your working for change.

You have a problem with people breaking this law, I believe... The hyperbole in that post is noteworthy however, almost subtle and gently hidden behind rhetorical questions that you actually seem to desire no answers for, due to the aforementioned hyperbole.

Also plenty of illegal immigrants coming over from Canada, though they might not be Canadian. Most are actually of Asian background. They are every bit as creative and desperate in their crossings as well. A while back we had a couple climbing/crawling upside down across a rail bridge at night over the Niagara River! Makes you wonder how bad it was for them... or at least I do.

on edit: Had to make one of my infamous run ons! Yay!

18. whatever
Yes, I have a problem with people who break this law. And no, I've never been in trouble with the law. But that's not at issue here. Breaking the law probably isn't the way I'd go about trying to emigrate to another country.

My questions were not rhetorical. You may not like them, don't need to answer, and most welcome to characterize them as hyperbole. Hey, it's a kick flaming people from behind the safety of a computer screen.

That doesn't change the fact that I want to understand what would motivate people to break the law. If it's not a great humanitarian crisis in Mexico, then what is it?

If the answer is "to have a better life for the kids"... well, there's a lot of people who have gone through proper channels and applied for their green cards. Maybe they are just trying to be proper role models for their kids. I don't know how to feel about that. But here we have 2 groups of people who want to come to America: One group goes through an immigration process, and the other runs across a border. Am I missing something here?

We let Haitians die in the ocean and turn others away facing an almost certain death in Haiti when they are caught in Florida. That is an abomination. THAT IS RACIST. Haiti is caught in a humanitarian crisis as are umpteen nations around the world and we do NOTHING. Forgive freaking me if my heart doesn't bleed for people who have the luxury of time to apply for citizenship from the southern border! They pay fees to criminals to get them across but can't afford filing fees? Give me a break.

As for the Canadian border, illegals crossing the Canadian border is a given. If they are coming over the Canadian border at the rate of a thousand a week I would say that's a big problem.

IMO, there has to be some balance between:

1. Available resources to care for, house and educate immigrants;

2. The number of immigration visas allowed; and

3. Resources allotted to preventing illegal crossings.

How can a massive influx of illegal aliens from ANY of our borders benefit anyone?

I thought only fundies examined and funneled policy issues in emotional histrionics.

24. You call that a flame?????????
I was playing nice. Why do so many take such umbridge at the fact that they use hyperbole??? Like some sort of mental masturbation everyone kind of does it from time to time, It was actually a compliment in a backhanded sorta way. Oh well... and as you said "whatever".

Like you though I'll give you some words and carry on after to seemingly having blown you off.

I didn't ask if you had been in trouble with the law. I asked if you hadn't ever broken any laws since what you said in the post that I responded to would indicate that you would more than likely "have a problem" with a sizeable chunk of the earths human population. You did say "What I do have a problem with is people breaking laws" after all. I also allowed you the benefit and thought you might actually claim that yes you are indeed in that 2 percentile, which is my own bit of hyperbole! See its fun to admit something like that.

Really I wasn't attacking you.
Believe it or not I actually agree with a large amount of what you stated above. There has to be a balance between those three items though but I think it can be much deeper and complicated. Too complicated for me to address with any kind of authority FWIW.

Also while not at the higher ends of the numbers on the Southern border the Northern has its share, enough so that yes it is a problem. I want it tightend up as well.

Seriously, did you just equate my post with extremist christians?
 :spray:  :applause:

That is a huge first for me! You have pleased me no end:) I'll accept that as a wicked backhanded compliment. Though this post wasn't as nicely done up as the first.

I mean none of what I said above sarcastically... mostly jokingly and with a sense of clarification.

Peace friend.

As in, "Hey, Skeeter. Time to hit the sands again!" Skeeter, seeing the 115 degrees on the thermometer and eying the beer cooler, replies, "OK! Just a sec....!"
