Poll question: Should Bill Clinton as the younger man give up his seat for Jimmy Carter?
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 10:40 AM by Stephanie

I think it would be a nice gesture, and a much-needed lesson in graciousness and manners for that petty little man in the WH, if President Clinton offered his place to President Carter. What do you think?

Former President Carter left out of U.S. delegation to pope's funeral
BY KENNETH R. BAZINET
New York Daily News

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - President Bush will be joined at the pope's funeral by two former presidents - his father and Bill Clinton - but there's no room for Jimmy Carter.

Carter, who has been a harsh Bush critic, withdrew, but made it clear he wanted to be included in the White House delegation.

The president will represent the nation at the funeral along with his wife, Laura, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Clinton and former President George H. W. Bush. <more at link>

1. Tricky one
It would be a nice gesture on a number of levels, but I can definately see Carter not accepting it.

2. Would be an obvious slap at Bush's choices.
Bush's choice, stupid fucker, and JC AND BC wouldn't do it.

3. Why single out Clinton?
I realize we've got a lot of Clinton haters here, but I don't see why he needs to take the blame. It's not as if he ever took HIS girlfriend along on state occasions.

7. it wasn't meant as a form of "blame" but as a Democrat doing for another
Democrat.

9. Take the blame? Not at all.
I'm saying that Bill could teach Chimpy a lesson in civilized behavior. Just as you'd offer your seat to an older person on the bus. It's a gesture.

13. i don't think its a matter of clinton haters
rather a recognition of who, in that group, would actually do an appropriate and dignified act on the world stage. so its really more of a praise to clinton's statesmanship rather than a diss.

24. true, noticed him/her as well
however i was just commenting that i didn't think the OP was bashing clinton . . .

its a shame - referring to the poster below - to watch dems turn on dems like that . . . especially since i'm certain it delights rove, delay and the rest to no end . . .

27. I was certainly not bashing Clinton in any way
I just think it would be cool for Clinton to teach the Chimp a lesson.

or if anyone would.

5. if he did it earlier it would have been better
but i don't think Carter wants it out of "pity".

if Clinton had done it when the news first came out and Clinton had said he thinks it's more important for Carter to be there for whatever reason that would have been much better.

but now i'm not so sure.

i had also suggested Kerry let Carter go in his place but saw he was going as part of a congressional delegation and if he doesn't go it might mean another congress person would go instead.

it just makes me sick that the assholes made it come down to this all because of the Chimp's being a fucking dickwad shithead asshole. i hate that motherfucker more everytime and i didn't think that was possible.

17. I know - just when I thought I could not despise him more
I find that I can. He sinks to impossibly low depths of bad behavior. His favorite gesture is the big F.U. - to Carter, to the UN, to the world. He's despicable.

8. Clinton should go with Kerry and Kennedy, and take Carter
Better conversations, and they won't have to listen to DUHbya's inane babble the entire trip.

It strikes me as odd, that a game of musical chairs-chicken should be part of any presidential get together:)

Clinton would withdraw from the chimp repuke circus and he and Carter would go together as a two-man "former Presidents" delegation. I'll bet they'd be warmly received at the Vatican and would steal some of dumbass's tv facetime.

That said, if GHWB is going, Carter should be going. He hosted the Pope at the WH for God's sake. Rice or Pickles should sit this one out.

16. read the article - the delegation is limited to five
So Chimpy chose Laura and Condi over President Carter, who wanted to go. Ford is unable to travel but Carter should have been invited.

A former president should go before a secretary of state.

for a head-of-state BY current or past heads-of-state.

20. Bill Clinton REALLY PISSES ME OFF !
I have supported him vehemently since he took office, but his carousing with the REPUBLI-THUGS is too much for me to bear.

He should NOT work with the bush family for tsunami relief, he should have worked with Jimmy Carter and told the republi-craps to fuck off.

This is too much for me to bear. If he goes with the bushtapo and leaves Carter behind, well, then I choose believe he made a clear decision to join the Neo-Cons.

I really really really cannot believe that I am about to type this, but if he does this, THEN FUCK BILL CLINTON !

But wasn't Carter the first U.S. President to host a papal visit to when JPII came to Washington D.C.?

For that reason alone, Carter should be included.

I voted to nix Condi. And delouse her while you're at it!
