Gonzales can't keep a straight face.
Under questioning from Sen Durbin, on the Patriot Act, Section 215, our Attorney General looks like he's about to break out laughing any second now. As if people would have the nerve to question the Administration.

But I guess if he made it through his confirmation hearings, he knows it's all a big joke anyway.

1. You noticed that too eh?
I couldn't even stand to look at him yesterday. He was smirking like a chimp the whole time. Wonder where he picked up that habit?

2. You can't blame a liar for lying...blame the questioners
What disgusts me about this whole farcicle process are the Senators and Congressmen who question him; Gonzales says "Oh, we're going to do better, pinky swear!" and the panel applauds the torturere for being forthright and candid.

Then he promises them the check is in the mail and that he wouldn't come on their faces, and that clinched it...solid approval from our elected officials.

What a disgusting display this entire administration is.

5. It's as close as he can come to being gracious...
...after all, instead of trying to hold it in, he just as easily really could laugh in their faces and get away with it if he wanted to, couldn't he?

6. Put yourself in his position
Imagine if you had a presidential directive to lie your ass off, wildly, in a proceeding as solemn as a congressional hearing. I think it would be very hard to keep a straight face.

I bet you're right that these sons of bitches bitterly resent the checks and balances of the Constitution. They know they just have to make it through this absurdist dog and pony show to operate outside of it.

7. I heard NPR describe Gonzales as 'gentler' than Ashcroft
(not an exact quote)who was not as congenial when being questioned.
Now isn't that nice?
Mr. torture, all soft and fuzzy.....
