Fox News is not exactly sure of Pope's position on Iraq War
http://www.newshounds.us/2005/04/04/neil_cavuto_misstates_or_lies_about_pope_john_paul_iis_position_on_iraq.php#more

Hussein Ibish of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee was a guest. (Fox identified him as being from the "Progressive Muslim Unit," whatever that is.) Hussein was speaking about Pope John Paul's pacifism and about his frequent support for people on both sides of an issue.

Ibish: "I think he impressed a lot of people in the Arab and Islamic world by taking a strong stance against the war in Iraq and by taking, by rejecting, you know, very categorically the idea of preemptive warfare, and what have you. So, he was respected both as a religious figure but also as a political figure who was able to be a friend of Israel and a friend of the Palestinians at the same time. Something we might want to..."

Cavuto, interrupting: "Well, to be fair, his views were not that black and white on the war in Iraq, but, Hussein thank you very much."

Ibish: "No. I think you're wrong about that."

Cavuto: "Well, we can argue but I don't want to argue with you today because I like you."

I'm starting to wonder if Fox News isn't some brilliant form of satire that we're all missing, but unfortuantely too many people take it seriously.

It sounds like Man Coulter when she was on CBC arguing with the very knowledgeable anchorman that Canada had actually sent troops to Vietnam....

22. The Cavuto asshole is confusing AFGHANISTAN with Iraq
Pope had fewer problems with the Afghan campaign, because it was a response to attack. Husein Ibish was right, but then, he has actually read what the Pope had to say on the issue. The Faux dopes should try that some time!

1. Ellen: FOX News legal analyst Peter J. Johnson, Jr. served as a non-stop advocate for the Schindler family on Alan Colmes' FOX News radio program. Johnson provided no explanation of Michael Schiavo's side of the dispute, no impartial analysis whatsoever. Isn't that supposed to be his job? http://tinyurl.com/4zagv

2. Marie Therese: Lawrence Shiman, Vice-President of Opinion Dynamics, an independent polling company that does a lot of work for FOX News Channel, analyzed the recent precipitous drop in George Bush's poll numbers. He claimed that Bush and the GOP have just faced a "perfect storm" of bad events which has resulted in these lowered approval ratings.

10. Oh yes, it's all just up for debate.
There's no objective reality. Everything is a matter of opinion and "debate".

What a moronic thing to say. Still, I'm sure the freepers who vilified the Pope for opposing Bush's invasion have completely forgotten about it by now. If that pencil-neck Cavuto tells them the Pope was on board, they'll believe it.

12. FOXNews.com - US & World - Vatican Strongly Opposes Iraq War
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 04:59 PM by LynnTheDem
Pope John Paul II and top Vatican officials are unleashing a barrage of condemnations of a possible U.S. military strike on Iraq, calling it immoral, risky and a "crime against peace."

The unwavering stance has made the pope one of the most visible opponents of war in current circumstances, and a rallying point for peace groups and politicians who seize on his words counseling against war.

His views seem pretty "black & white" to me.

14. Bullshit
"War is always a defeat for humanity."

What part of THAT don't you understand, Neil?

For months prior to the invasion the Pope and the Vatican issued consistent statements on their opposition to the war. You cannot spin ONE WORD of anything Rome said prior to March 2003. Or since, for that matter.

And I think Cavuto finally recognized that by his weak-assed retreat on the subject.

15. Do you think that Fox, CNN, MSNBC, ClearChannel, et al....
have a pro-war incentive plan in play? Maybe every newsreader, opinionist, pundit who says nice things about this immoral war of occupation and oil grabs gets a monthly bonus tied to their pro-war comments?

Hey, we know this government pays for propaganda....why wouldn't this also be the case?

I heard the same thing on a conservative radio show today hosted by some woman (can't remember the name, but she replaced Bill O'Fucknugget in the late morning time slot).

I also overheard several (protestant fundie) conservatives speaking glowingly about PJPII and how he really wanted us to kick those arabs asses in Iraq. They claimed to have heard it on the news, which in their world is limited to Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

17. Pre-emptive rewrites of history
They aren't even letting the ink get put to paper on this illegal war and they already are framing and reframing it.

The linkage of JPII to Reagan was sudden and complete as well.

Vatican Strongly Opposes Iraq War

Wednesday, March 12, 2003

VATICAN CITY — Pope John Paul II and top Vatican officials are unleashing a barrage of condemnations of a possible U.S. military strike on Iraq, calling it immoral, risky and a "crime against peace."

The unwavering stance has made the pope one of the most visible opponents of war in current circumstances, and a rallying point for peace groups and politicians who seize on his words counseling against war......

The stance reflects what experts say is the Vatican's evolving position on just war, already seen by its opposition to the Gulf War, as well as concern about the impact of war on relations between Christians and Muslims.

"He is looking ahead for the rest of this century where Christian-Muslim relations are key to peace and religious freedom in Africa and many parts of Asia," said the Rev. Thomas Reese, editor of the Jesuit magazine America.

John Paul has insisted that war is a "defeat for humanity" and that a preventive strike against Iraq is neither legally nor morally justified.

Aides have repeatedly said the pope is not a pacifist, pointing to his support of humanitarian intervention to "disarm the aggressor" in Bosnia and East Timor and his repeat condemnations of terrorism following the Sept. 11 attacks.

28. Faux declared the Pope dead 26 hours before
he died. Shepherd Smith had to retract his breaking news that the Pope had died. There's audio of his producer screaming, "Hello, the Pope's dead." Then a very snitty Smith whining about his producer..."Not my fault!" Well, actually, it is. See, as a "journalist" you're supposed to actually check things out BEFORE you report. Otherwise, you're just Vanna White turning letters over.
Put on a sparkly evening gown, Shepherd, and some hooker heels.
