David Horowitz is coming to my college.
Apparently, our jerrymandered GOP-dominated state government has decided that there are just too many damned liberals at Colorado higher educational institutions. Finding a receptive audience for this tripe in the wingnut-dominated MSCD Board of Trustees, they've decided to do something about it.

Enter right-wing firebrand David Horowitz, and his "Academic Bill of Rights." He calls what he wants 'intellectual pluralism,' but it's really a stuffing of faculty ranks with politically like-minded stooges. It's despicable and universally condemned by the current faculty. You see, well-educated people tend to be liberal. It's not a function of pre-existing political alignments.

I knew things were going to heat up when they fired the president of our school, Patricia Kaplan, a solid liberal the wingnut Board found overly articulate.

Anyway, Mr. Horowitz will be at our school this Thursday trying to tell us about "the other side of the story." I'm guessing that would be the reactionary, jingoist, corporate apologist side. Somehow I doubt I will come out of it with a changed view of, for example, Manifest Destiny.

Anybody got a question for this guy?

if the GOP sponsored an event and nobody came. How sweet it would be if Horowitz had to speak before an empty auditorium. :-)

15. I'm beginning to think
this this may call for a more creative response than a mere testy Q&A. i am thinking about it what would be the most enjoyable, not to mention the most visible...

in terms of 'protesting' in the conventional sense, well, i do think the schmuck has a right to say whatever he wants—he's not the first crackpot to speak in the tivoli turnhalle. but i also think that myself and a few friends of mine might have the right to expose him for the demagogue choad that he is.

11. Ah, I see free speech and you are unaquainted

Up is down. Right is wrong. Black is white.

Free speech isn't an 'excuse' for suppression of ideas that you might find offensive, in case that escaped your notice. It's the medium of exchange that both your ideas and those of whom you oppose flow.

Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 12:25 AM by HawkeyeX
I'm there with a box full of rotten eggs, ala Ahhhhhnold.

My school is Metro State at Auraria Campus.

Never mind - I see that you are also a Metro student. It's Sheila Kaplan that got fired, not Patricia. Maybe you and I can go eat at Pete's Arena and talk politics, eh? Send me a PM.

Or send me e-mail at tesler at our school address.
