Gore's channel will NOT be a voice for Democrats
"We have no intention of being a Democratic channel, a liberal channel or the TV version of Air America." (Gore's own words)

2. Too bad, there's a huge market niche there to fill with programming.
AAR's success has proved that....

No, it won't. ~wink, wink~
If a liberal network is truly Al's real intent, it wouldn't be wise of him to say so at this point--the MSM would strafe him (and probably threaten potential advertisers).

At the same time, I presume he's in this venture to make money. I presume that he realizes that he won't make too much money trying to be the poor man's MTV. And I presume he hates Bush enough that he'd do anything to put the Dems back in power.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

19. Why would I be disappointed? I never expected...
...it to launch in the first place. Any integrity that Pres. Gore can return to the once-venerable news field is just gravy now.

20. First of all, it's not a news channel, primarily "lifestyle"
And as much as I'm looking forward to this, it replaces a very venerable news channel, Newsworld International, which showed CBC, BBC, etc.

4. well, the fact that they say they have "no intention"
sort of implies that it may end up as one... unintentionally.

I think if Dems and Libs are the ones watching it and boosting its ratings, the show will lean more left than right.

5. I don't need any bias in my news
but the truth would be good.I would love to see someone call the liars on their lies, that would be refreshing.
If they just report things the way journalists should, I can make up my own mind as to what to think about the information.I don't need a talking head to tell me what my opinion should be.
If they can do that I will watch it.

6. Not only will it not be liberal
Gore was probably the Democrat in the Clinton administration most eager to deregulate the telecom and cable industry. It's vaguely unseemly of him to try to become a cable mogul after legislating the landscape which creates so much opportunity for profit in the cable industry.

Gore is responsible for making sure that cable is not very competitive and that it's easy for cable companies to monopoly price their services.

Now he's trying to get rich off of that.

9. We don't need a Democratic channel
All we need is a channel that reports the FACTS. That's all we're asking for. Cover the stories, report the facts. No need to lean in any direction. The facts will speak for themselves, if only people get a chance to hear them.

23. Newsworld International
provides excellent, reality-based coverage of the world.
NWI will be replaced by Gore's version of MTV.
This will be a huge loss for adults in search of real news.

No Political Agenda
Gore, who narrowly lost the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush, has publicly complained about the number of conservative voices dominating the airwaves.

Yet he insisted that Current will have no political agenda.

"We have no intention of being a Democratic channel, a liberal channel or the TV version of Air America," Gore said, referring to the fledgling liberal radio network. "It is not in any way an ideological, much less partisan point of view in any respect. It will have the point of view of the young generation."

In its first contest judging video submissions to the channel, Current awarded a $15,000 prize to three filmmakers who produced a funny segment poking fun at predictable and often misleading presidential campaign ads.

Off topic, sort of: it really is easy to find links for stories that do not require registration. If you search the headline or keywords from the story at Google News, you almost always can find an alternative. Then your fellow DUers don't have to register at some site to read the story and know what you're talking about.

of running for Prez again, or that he's creating his own platform from which to campaign?

30 second to 5 minute segments contributed by viewers? It sounds like public access on steroids.
