Question to all the GOP'ers in America: Is this really the party that was
the GOP your Parents and Grandparents had? Is it REALLY representing your interests and what you truly care about?

I grew up in a Republican household...I was taught the following (and ofcourse why Dems were so bad):

The Republican/GOP party stands for:

1) Fiscal Conservatism
2) State Rights
3) Keeping Gov't small
4) Keeping Gov't out of Private Lifes
5) Separation of Church and State and protecting the Constitution

Hmmmmm.....Does this sound like the actions of the current GOP and the Congress, Senate and President?

How come every time I ask a Republican friend or family member that when I ask them now what it means to be a Republican and why they are a Republican, they quickly change the subject and start talking about them damn liberals and dems....

So, I'll ask you again, what is it again about this administration and the current GOP party that makes you a member of it and supporting it? Is this REALLY your party that you seem to have more allegiance to than to your country? What is patriotism? Loyalty to a party or to your Constitution and protecting that?

Think of it this way if you decide to no longer vote Republican and no longer support this administration or your elected state representives, Congressmen and Senators...you didn't leave the GOP, they left you. Time to reconsider your loyalties.....Do you love your country or a "party"?

4. Not at all...this is a serious question & "shout out" to all the GOP in
this country and each and every one of us should be asking this question of our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, clerks at stores, etc. that we know are Republicans or voted Republican. People in this country need to ask this question of our fellow citizens that put this piece of shit for a President and every single one of the elected Representatives and Senators in this country that now have complete control of two of our branches of government and who are now setting their sights on the Judiciary Branch, the sole branch designed in the checks and balances to determine in our laws what is and isn't constitutional and basically protect its foundation and existence.

Also, while we all know that there are Freepers and trolls on the DU regularly, this was a serious question for us to not only ask of our neighbors and fellow citizens, but I know that there are many DUers that like me grew up in Republican Families and have either evolved over the years (like me) to being a Progressive or who got so disillusioned with the Republican Party as it has been in the last decade.

We need to all be asking this question of our fellow citizens....

2. Same here, with the addition of Civil Rights, and Environmental Protection
Oh, and Women's Rights.

We were a good, old-fashioned Iowa Republican family. Pretty progressive for these days, even for some of the Democrats here in East Tennessee.

5. I am a registered Repub, but....
I no longer vote for repubs nationally or on the state level unless I KNOW for a fact they are not neoconbots or fundies. I hold no animosity toward dems unless they are neoconbots or fundies(and there are dems who are neocons and fundies.)

I would rather take back the repub party than switch parties. Of course, I am in the northeast where repubs are pretty liberal compared to most southern dems.

I think the Northeast is unique in the sense that we encourage balance of power even if it means voting for someone of another party. Mass, which is mostly democrats, votes in repub governors and NH which is mostly repub, votes in dem governors. The blind party loyalty of late is terrifying to those of us(moderates)in NH, VT, MA. etc.

6. The conservative movement has NEVER advocated
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 04:32 PM by BullGooseLoony
the government staying out of people's private lives- or keeping church and state separate, for that matter. These are liberal social issues.

How people get those ideas from the idea of "small government" (translated: less taxes), I don't know.

The "conservatives" have consistently pushed their fascist social agenda.

7. Well, I beg to differ - I know what my family of Republicans taught and
what any of my friends who were brought up to be Republicans...maybe it was never part of the official party platform, but its what every one I know was taught growing up...

PS: My family escaped Nazi Germany and fascism...they would never have come to this country to join a party that represented a fascist social agenda....they knew that with the Nazi Party.

9. This stuff you're seeing now is nothing new.
This has been going on with the Republicans for decades.
