The * Culture of Strife
Does anyone remember when news was real? When debate was civil? It's scary to admit this--my memory of such is growing dim.

1. I remember and don't believe there is anything wrong with your memory..
I just finished a post on another thread about all the media "celebs" and all the "celebs" they report on anymore. It seems like rich and famous (or those steadfastly on their way) are the only ones reported on or even the only ones here anymore. I remember when this wasn't the case in reporting and media. I believe however that the current trend began decades back and has increased to the point of what we are seeing today.

2. Glad to know my memory is okay! I recently saw . . .
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 11:15 PM by GreenPoet64
a good "old fashioned" news broadcast on a small public cable station (local), and had a flashback to when news was a list of neutral facts read by someone in front of a plain background holding type-written notes. I though, My god--we have no news!

I've known this for sometime now--I guess I just had an "oh shit" moment. I've had a number of those since the * administration came to power.

Edit: sp.

4. I remember also GreenPoet64! It was true.
How sad that you should even have to post this question. A sure sign of the times we live in. I can't bear to even watch television news at all anymore. I only end up feeling as if I have fallen down the rabbit hole, but without the fun and neat colors!

Where did truth go?

It was a gradual erosion for awhile it seemed, but then POW, it appeared to happen overnight also. I know that seems a contradiction, but that's what I noticed.

I quit the "news" habit I learned from my parents years ago last year when cnn headline news spun the piece Letterman did on the kid yawning behind the Lunatic for 2 days. I had never seen anything like it in all my life. Kids get bored listening to adults talking, so what? But they first said Letterman showed the piece, then said he put kid in footage, wasn't even there. Next said kid WAS there but not behind Lunatic, then okay was there, was behind Lunatic, but had been a very loong day and he was very tired and had gotten up early.

The next day they had on a psychologist to verify that the kid would have been tired after such a long day and some kids may have a hard time paying attention when adults are speaking. Also had the kid and father on.

God forbid that even children are not entranced by the Lunatic's every word!!!

It was disgusting. I turned it off and never looked back. I always believed things had spin, but until that happened did not realize exactly how far things had gone.

Thank you GreenPoet.
