Conscientious Objection And Alternative Service
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 07:50 PM by Maine-ah
just some info for those who might want to know

http://www.sss.gov/FSconsobj.htm

"Beliefs which qualify a registrant for CO status may be religious in nature, but don't have to be. Beliefs may be moral or ethical; however, a man's reasons for not wanting to participate in a war must not be based on politics, expediency, or self-interest. In general, the man's lifestyle prior to making his claim must reflect his current claims."

Time to update this one to say man/woman.

:scared: I saw one article in the local newspaper tonight about a draft, and then in the LTE there was a "Document opposition" letter, by a group called the "Society of Friends" that offers people help, that wish to document their claim to status as conscientious objectors to war. To Quote: " In the historical tradition of Quakers, and it's commitment to a testimony of peace, reconciliation and nonviolence, the Mid coast Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends wishes to inform the residents of Maine that it continues to offer a safe depository for any formal statements of conscience expressing individual opposition to the participation in war"

Folks, my tinfoil hat is off. I believe this is going to happen. If you object to fighting in war please make sure you document your objection in whatever way you can!:scared:

1. Thanks a lot for this. I spoke to a dear
friend today who's concerned. Her son in college is most likely to fall into the draft category and she asked I pass anything on, which I'm going to start/continue doing.

3. The enlistment age has been raised to 39 but
I'm fuzzy on what's going to happen with the draft. Very scary shit! But I imagine it just might wake up this country. Good luck to you both!
