So does Bush go to the funeral?
(Presuming there is one -- I hope John Paul recovers, though it doesn't look likely.) I don't think Dear Leader will. Most of Europe hates him, and ALL of Italy hates him. And think of the inconvenience the egotistical bastard puts on other nations when he visits -- that last trip to England, for instance. Do you think the Italians would sit still for being pushed aside from a funeral cortage because the Prick-in-Chief wants to play "foreign dignitary" and walk beside actual ELECTED leaders? I think it's a lose-lose situation for him; if he goes, there'll be outrage and protest like you've never seen before. If he stays home, he's as good as admitting that he's not welcome abroad. What a world. Our Leader -- the Loser.

21. Condoleezza will fit it in her busy schedule and perhaps give a
discourse on the wonderful relationship of Italy and a America...and...making Iraq a loving nation.

3. I heard on the news last night
That a US president has never attended the funeral of a Pope; traditionally, a high-ranking official attends.

4. But just hold out hope...
During the funeral, the Celebrant states in the middle of the Funeral Mass that JP wrote a letter and it begins with GWB you war mongering sheep f*cking creationist pseudo-life "christain," I hope you are not at my funeral, because I'm not some photo-op like those men and women that you send off to kill for no apparent reason. If you actually want to be a part of the culture of life you will do the following...

8. Bush will definitely go. Anything to get out of the country and those
dern fake town hall meetings, pesky protesters and "hard" work. He can safely assume that such a somber occasion will afford him time to do the public appearance (faux presidential serious expressions and mingle with the real world leaders) without having to answer any questions about anything. Who would dare to bother him at such an important event? Yeah, he's going, Pickles will go, Condi will go and they will enjoy a ménage à trois in the back of St. Pete's - will be one for the scrap book.

Of course, Jebby will tag along. He'll need more photo ops for any future plans. Ack. These boys are never gonna go away are they?

15. Chimpy is locked up tight right now
He won't go because it's too dangerous. There are too many people to screen, and he can't get them all to sign "loyalty oaths." They are loyal to their religion! I remember when the last pope died the worlds eyes were on that event as well. I don't remember our president or our vice president attended the funeral, but the Catholic church is a very powerful country in it's own right and leaders from around the world usually recognize that so I imagine Cheney or Rice will attend the event.

17. I think he'll send Bush 1and Clinton. That should cover most
Americans. Maybe Jebby will be thrown in for good measure.

I really think we'll see Carter there too.

22. Carter will be there I'm sure!
You probably hit the others right on the mark! Sadly, IMO, Poppy's attendance is despicable! He's the most anti-Catholic human being other than his son that I can think of in politics.

20. No American President in recent history -
- has attended the funeral of a pope. The most recent pope deaths were when two pope's died during the Carter administration and Carter did not attend either funeral.

A pope died during Kennedy's administration. Kennedy was catholic and he did not attend.
