Not one crying screeching drama queen dumbfuck sign-holding Randal Terry worshipping James Dobson funding #3 mourning Bush voting Repuke among the people praying for the Pope.

Dignity and class. Must be a "Euroweenie" thing

2. Thank you.
I could not articulate that myself. I think the word that applies here is "solemnity." Death IS (or should be?) solemn. Juggling, fighting, bull-horn screaming and drumming strike me as being somewhat anti-solemn.

4. Two cheers for the Euroweenies
Perhaps our loss of dignity and class has something to do with the trade surplus.

5. No bagpipes either!
The people in St. Peters Square are there to pray for the Pope. They recognize the seriousness of his health condition. And most important, they have NO POLITICAL AGENDA.

6. The people in St. Peters are there to say good-bye...
...The people in Pinellas were hoping to get interviewed by Savage Weiner or Ann-Thrax, or Joe the Lori-Killer, or at least have their cellie ring with some drooling relative screaming "Ah done seed you on FOX Nooz!!!"....

can you hear that giant sucking sound? That's the air leaving the room of the idiots who politicized her life and eventual death in the first place.

On edit:John Paul II has effectively stolen the thunder here.

19. It's not just a European thing.
Catholics have a very normal view of death and the dying process for the most part. Most Catholics supported Schiavo's husband. You only saw the extremists in Pinellas. They are really NOT apart of mainstream Catholicism! Catholics feel no need to be reborn they are reborn at every confession and every Sunday mass when they take communion. For those that don't understand the religion it may look extreme, but it really is extremely pagan still to this day. I was raised Catholic. I no longer attend services regularly, but that is really because I have come to realize through my religion that god is everywhere and the pagan rituals are not essential to being in God's good grace. I have problems with some of what the Catholic Church says, but for the most part the local Catholic Church really is a place for comfort rather than bible banging. You'd be surprised at how varied Catholic priests views really are in a confessional. They read scripture and go through routine at mass on Sunday, but they really don't do a lot of interpreting IMO. Ritual is comforting for many. It's kind of like meditation. Remember, in the Catholic Church, forgiveness of sin, every sin, is only one confession and one communion away! that is why Catholics tend to have such a wide array of views.
