the fundies and the media will be just be all agush with the connections between the two. You will get these cute editorial cartoons of Terri and the Pope up on a cloud together. I am so sickened with how much more attention some deaths get than others.

28. I just posted this on another DU link! She didn't die on Easter
as some had imagined she would...I was relieved because I feared that these crazies would canonize her! If she and the Pope die on the same day, I can just imagine the speculations. (But I really do believe in a Divine Order in the Universe, so maybe the timing would be significant...)

39. Another reference
Anointing of the Sick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Last rites)

The Anointing of the Sick is one of the sacraments of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and some Protestant churches.

The former name Extreme Unction was used in the Western (Roman) part of the Catholic Church from the end of the twelfth century until the Second Vatican Council, and was never popular in the Eastern (Orthodox) part. Last Rites is a common but misleading term; the Anointing of the Sick can be received as often as the believer desires and should not be postponed until death is thought to be near, nor is its administration intended to imply an expectation that the recipient is about to die. At one time in history, the sacrament was reserved until death was believed to be imminent, in order to reduce the possibility of the sick person committing further sins after its administration. However, since the Second Vatican Council this is no longer the case.

death, but it can be given during grave illness as well. My mother had it three times before she died.

I got last rites when I was in the hospital for diverticulitis, and nowhere near in danger of dying. It's a very common sacrament nowadays.

so it seems Italy may save them for the more serious states. They are speaking pretty grimly on the reports from the Vatican.
