1. I wonder if he'll make it to the end of the weekend
If not, who will succeed him? Or is he going to be the last pope?

4. There will be another Pope
And the next Pope could well make or break the Roman Church.

9. There will be another pope
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 04:01 PM by WilliamPitt
He will be as conservative or more conservative on a lot of issues. They have been stacking the cardinals with conservatives lately. Look for the possible appointment of an African cardinal to the post.

The church will continue to be strong on issues like the death penalty, but will continue the hard line on abortion, birth control, etc.

I didn't know there were liberal and conservative cardinals. You would think they'd all be conservative.

40. Great
That's just what we need, another strong voice on the world stage that promotes oppression of Gays and women. Why do they refuse to accept the reality that promoting an anti Gay and anti women agenda perpetuates social violence?

I thought the church was anti violence?

27. The world has watched (live) for the white smoke for at least
the past three Popes. Trust me, it will take days and you will be soooo over it before the decision is made.

The Vatcian knows the whole world is watching and they play it as a media event. Karl or Karen will probably help with the image.

the signal for when he dies.

I dread to see the white smoke. Especially, if the next pope is Opus Dei.

32. Sorry, for misunderstanding. However, I think the black smoke
is used when the Cardinals take votes (3 times day) and can't reach a decision I didn't know they put up the black smoke when a Pope dies.

Got a good chuckle from your Opus Dei comment. I have a bunch of rusted barbed wire out in the barn - think I will cut in bracelet lengths and market it on ebay.

I've been 'away' from the church for a long time. My RC factoids are getting a bit rusty.

As for the barb wire, that idea has got potential.

13. End stage Parkinson's sucks
Just the opposite of PVS (vegetative state).

Had a hospice patient with it - he had founded a MAJOR software company, and he couldn't talk anymore and movement was usually frozen. You could really see that there was a fully cognizant someone deep inside.

I had to help him urinate once (a new experience for me as a medical "civilian") I didn't know what to do, and he couldn't tell me or move to show me. I was mortified by the process, but he managed to croak "blind leading blind", which cracked me up and broke the embarrassment.

It was truly horrible to see someone who's brain was so clearly working, trapping in a body that so clearly wasn't.

Pope John Paul doesn't deserve that - no one does.

18. My FIL died from it
It is indeed a cruel disease, and very difficult for everyone involved. My in-laws made the decision not to have a feeding tube inserted because of his failing ability to eat and drink. It is horrible that people, including residents of the Vatican, would condemn a loving family for making such a difficult decision.

19. I have read that according to prophecy,
There are only supposed to be two more popes before the end of the world. Apparently St. Malachy accurately "named" all of the popes and named the last two as "Gloria Olivae ("Glory of the Olive") and "Peter of Rome."

20. If this Pope Dies The Rapture Is Soon

According to some endtime teachers.

Reports are that there is only room for one more Papel portrait in the halls of the Vatican. The scholars really belive that the hall was divinly inspired to reflect the biblical plan.

Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 04:42 PM by ultraist
Is he not ready to be with his Creator? He is in pain, old, has lived a full life; I don't understand why he is going to extraordinary measures to remain here rather than to go onto heaven.

the photos they showed of PJII he looked awful at Easter, I was suprised by the ravages of this illness on him. He also looked like he was in pain. It will be a release for him as well.

I wonder if the Rapture Right will see this as a sign, First Terri, Now the Pope.

We live in interesting times.

47. Pope John XXIII
was an excellent pope but died too soon, than following him was Pope John Paul I who died I believe within a month. Many say he was poisoned because he was going to do something with the corruption he saw within the church. I think it is ironic these two popes, John Kennedy and Martin Luther King all died within almost the same time frame.

48. check your research, n2mark
John XXIII died in 1963, followed by Paul VI, who died in 1978.
John Paul I lasted only a few weeks, followed by John Paul II, the current pope.

John Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963; Martin Luther King in April 1968.

the only two deaths close to each other were John XXIII and Kennedy.
