A baby died today.
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 02:33 PM by Cyrano
Actually, thousands of babies died today. Mostly in Africa, Asia (and Texas thanks to a "If you can't pay, then die," bill signed by George W. Bush when he was governor).

But Fox, CNN, MSNBC, et al, seem to have the ability to focus on only one death a a time.

Although I am an agnostic, I thank any universal intelligence that may exist, that Terri Schiavo, her husband, and her family, have finally found peace.

But where are Randall Terry, Tom DeLay, Jeb Bush, George Bush, Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and all the other hypocrites who disrupted the lives of other people whose family members were dying in that hospice? (Oh, and let's not forget Jesse Jackson's last minute shot at camera "face time.") Do they give a damn about some child, sitting on the ground someplace in the world, hoping that someone will give him/her a sip of water?

Anyone who thinks that the human species has advanced past the dark ages is in a dream world. Our technology has advanced. We're still the same savages who torture, murder, loot, pillage and plunder in the name of some "supreme, all-knowing entity".

Of course, this isn't all of us. But they are sly enough to make many believe that they represent us. For anyone who hasn't yet figured it out, they are a lunatic minority, who has the backing of the Republican party, and a media that relinquished any responsibility for decency, or their role in the survival of democracy.

3. No we don't. At least the rational thinkers here don't think so
And to the original poster, yes it is a shame that the fundies have chosen to pick fights where their political agendas can be thrust onto others instead of just doing good for good's sake.

7. Right-o. Let's ignore the thrust of the commentary.....
...and just bash Texas again. Sorry, but that gets old. Dubya ain't even a Texan by birth.

Sniping at other regions does nothing to promote progressive ideals. I'm proud to be Texan, and I'm proud to be a liberal/progressive. The two are not mutually exclusive.

12. Amen
Jesus some of are here for reasons other than choice. I have children and my husband and I both have jobs. I'm so tired of all Texans being painted with the same brush. When my kids are no longer in school then it will be easier to pick up and move but I like this state as a whole. I detest the small minds and narrow vision of many of the folks i come across but you get that everywhere. Yes it's more prevalent here but some pockets of Texas are quite blue.

Apologies to our Texas members, but that shot was just too easy to take...

20. There aren't enough aware people, tears, or so-called supreme beings
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 03:57 PM by Cyrano
to stop this.

With apologies to all of you believers, where the fuck is your God?

And this is not just a "flip" posting. It's a question I've been asking ever since I learned about the holocaust. If any so-called "supreme being" existed, he/she/it is a either a sadist, an incompetent, a moron, or some school yard bully having a good time at our expense.

If I'm wrong, and I find myself someday answerable to this "supreme being," I have a lot of questions of my own. And if I'm not entitled to questions and answers, I suppose he/she/it really is a right wing Republican.

On edit: pademocrat; this is not so much a specific reply to your posting as a rant against those looking for "divine intervention."

6. The whole Schiavo mess
is just one more sad commentary on the direction this country is taking.

Hate the child, love the fetus.

Save one brain-damaged woman, forget about the hundreds of brain-damaged soldiers coming back into this country thanks to an illegal war.

Create a circus in order to feed one woman(who can't swallow on her own), yet deny food(basic necessities)to poor Americans by underfunding or cutting social programs(Culture of Life my ass)

Expressing sorrow for the death of one woman on national TV, yet not saying a damn thing about the deaths of thousands of American soldiers and innocent Iraqis.

Culture of Life?...I think more like a Culture of Death with the shrub as their Grand PoohBaah!!!

9. This may be "off the wall".
but the dog's picture is beautiful. and brought tears to my eyes for our Cookie, a golden retreiver, that was put to sleep months ago, pancreatic cancer, so not only do millions die each day, somewhere, someone loses a beloved pet. Life indeed has it's hardships, of what ever kind.

10. Well, you should have learned from Texas........
we had Bush here destroying our state and you all couldn't see that? What more record did this country need to see the lesson?

We've dealt with him longer than you and those of us here who are the sane and suffering, begged, pleaded, warned the rest of the country, but the other red states elected him anyway and now people look at Texas like it's our fault. Hell, we were the "try out state". The other red states can't plead stupid. The record was HERE and we live with it.

Sure the dumb asses in Texas send idiots out there, but why do the other states not have the power to stop them. Delay is from one little congressional district and he's a total idiot. Where did all the idiots who decided they wanted him to be their leader come from? When the congresses elected him majority leader, Texas did not have a Repuke majority congressional caucus. The other states, which had turned the US congress Repuke gave him the power and he used it to turn the Texas congressional caucus Repuke.

Enough with the slams at Texas. Remember, those of us in Texas who are DU'ers are the ones who sounded the warning. We don't deserve to keep getting slammed because the friggin voters didn't listen.

BTW, how much did you donate to defeat Delay? After all, he isn't merely a single Repuke congressman. He's the majority leader. If you don't start working against him now, you should back off. We have enough to contend with here, without your constant harping.

21. I tried in vain to warn friends in California, Philadelphia & elsewhere...
...BACK IN 2000 that Bush was NOT a "uniter," that he's a LIAR, and I gave them a laundry list of reasons they shouldn't vote for him (starting with how he stole the land for the Ballpark in Arlington using eminent domain).

Then they voted for him, anyway, brainwashed like the rest of America. How dare people slam TEXANS when we tried to warn people!

Personally, I don't know who keeps voting for him--nobody I know has ever voted for him.

Anybody who still thinks Dubya is somehow the fault of real Texans needs to get the video "Bush's Brain" about Karl Rove and how he single-handedly created the mess we're living with today.

14. You don't have to look to third world countries for people dying
needlessly. 45 million uninsured are just that: uninsured. If they have no money or equity in a house, what are the chances they will receive something such as a life saving liver transplant? Or chemo? Or even the tests to discover what might be wrong with them? And, of course, we also have plenty of hungry Americans. Maybe if our own needy could be used for political gain - like Bush and Congress attempted (mistakenly) to use Schiavo - something might be done. Otherwise, we die prematurely in this "culture of life" society.

15. I started this thread and I don't know how it got into a bash Texas spree.
This was about life and death on planet earth. The reference to the bill that Bush got through was a condemnation of Bush, not Texas.

Jeeeez, isn't there anyone who can stay on the topic and not get sidetracked by parochial pig shit???
