ALZHEIMER'S CENTER NAMED FOR REAGAN

State Senators, still smarting from former House Speaker Johnnie Byrd's confrontational style, have gutted his legacy: The Johnnie B. Byrd Sr. Alzheimer's Center and Research Institute, which the lawmaker named after his father, who died of complications from the disease.

The Senate on Wednesday stripped Byrd's name and renamed the center after former President Ronald Reagan. It also cut the $15 million that was supposed to be spent on the center yearly.
