South Carolina witch hunt (attacking "in Jesus name")
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 11:31 AM by Mari333
In one incident after another, residents of Great Falls lashed out at her with the vehemence of a crazed mob. They killed her 8-year-old parrot, an African gray that could have lived to be 100 or older, Wynne says. “She was beheaded and her heart was cut out.”

They repeatedly vandalized her home. “And I mean, literally where they come in and flipped over the refrigerator, pulled up my heater, spray painted.”

They visited abuse upon her animals. “I’ve had cats poisoned,” she says. “I had one cat gutted and hung from a planter thing in my house.” Her 14-year-old Yorkshire terrier was blinded in one eye. Named after Wynne’s affection for a certain motorcycle line, Harley encountered many a threat in Alaska from owls, eagles, foxes and the like. But the dog was never the worse for wear over it. Says Wynne, “And I gotta come down to some redneck town, and some jackass, they’re not satisfied just killing my birds, almost killing my horses, but they’ve gotta pick on such a small old dog.”

5. She needs to get out of there. She is not safe.
I know it is letting them "win", but she and her pets deserve better.

2.  fundie nuts call themselves pro-life
but slaughtered her pets.

This nation is turning into one big nuthouse of violent, paranoid, intolerant head cases, and the current Misadministration and its Ministry of Propaganda, the media, encourage it.

Best of luck to Karla in her struggle against this insanity.

4. This may sound cruel and evil
But it's things like this that keep me believing that the fundies have to be decimated, they have to be shown that they cannot just do as they please without any consequences.

They are the enemy, and that's the bottom line, you can't talk to them, you can't reason with them, they lack that which Christ taught.

They lack the ability to love, to forgive, to tolerate, they would rather see people who disagree with them locked up or worse. The time for reasoning with the majority of these people has long passed.

7. We have got to establish a "safe haven" system of some sort.
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 11:41 AM by Dhalgren
We had better get our "underground railroad" into operation now, because this shit is getting out of hand. How many non-Christian, non-white, non-Republican lynchings are we going to witness before we, as a group - as a people, act? This makes me sick...

8. isn't it odd that some people will use any excuse to be inhuman
I'm pretty sure (and not a religious person at all) that if J.H. Christ moved into town and mostly kept to himself, I have a feeling that he would not have been running around killing parrots, blinding dogs and otherwise "not suffering" a witch.

In fact I have a feeling that if a lightning bolt were going to be cast at anyone it would be at the evil and sickness and cowardice that runs around hiding behind the bible to justify their ugly deeds.

9. Scary people!
-snip-

Not long after settling into the town — population 2,194 according to the 2000 Census — Wynne started having problems with crack dealing in her neighborhood. She first sought relief from local law enforcement. Then, when that didn’t help, she did what any civic-minded American might do — she turned to her elected officials.

That’s when the trouble began.

Attending Town Council meetings to inform about her problem, Wynne was taken aback to discover that the council opened its meetings with a Christian prayer. After all, she was, and still is, proudly pagan. Wynne is a “high priestess” (the equivalent of a pastor in Christianity) in the earth-based religion Wicca. Inspired by Western European beliefs that predate Christianity, Wicca incorporates the use of herbal magic and benign witchcraft, according to dictionary.com.

At first Wynne employed the art of persuasion in trying to convince the council to go with a more universal, nonsectarian prayer. But the council would have nothing to do with it, so in 2001 Wynne sued with help from the state ACLU.

10. I'm speachless - wtf?
I hope she knows there are real Americans here in SC too.

I'd love to meet some of the fucking inbreds that harrassed her and harmed and killed her animals. Man, I'd really like to meet some of those America-hating fools in person. Bastards.

She's a brave woman to stand and fight instead of running away.

Good for her, and good for us.
