Bush WMD Panel to Release Final Report

WASHINGTON - President Bush's commission on weapons of mass destruction has found that failures throughout U.S. spy agencies led to botched estimates of the threat posed by Saddam Hussein and is recommending dozens of changes to prevent future intelligence breakdowns, government officials say.

The commission also is expected to be highly critical of U.S. abilities to infiltrate Iran and North Korea, considered two leading threats today. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the report was not yet public.

The commission was releasing its final report, spanning more than 600 pages, Thursday after more than a year of work that included closed-door sessions with Bush and other top administration officials.

Numerous government reports have detailed intelligence failures since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. This commission is the first formed by Bush to look at why U.S. spy agencies mistakenly concluded that Iraq had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, one of the administration's main justifications for invading in March 2003.

Gee, not a word in there about Bush's war "hard on" and the insistence of his advisers to ignore evidence to the contrary? :eyes:

Again, it's everyone else's fault, with our inglorious leader escaping without as much as a scratch to his wonderful reputation.

2. 600 pages?
I could do that shit in two sentences.

Sentence one: Somebody found one really old artillery shell with some weak sarin in it (big fucking threat, eh?).

Sentence two (how to fix the problem): Institute the Chuck D Doctrine: Don't believe the hype.

4. Aw, give him some credit.
Remember he even took it upon himself to conduct his own wmd search.

The president could be seen bending over to peer at the floor of the Oval Office

Bush's Iraq WMDs joke backfires

>snip<One pictured Mr Bush looking under a piece of furniture in the Oval Office, at which the president remarked: "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."

After another one, showing him scouring the corner of a room, Mr Bush said: "No, no weapons over there," he said.

And as a third picture, this time showing him leaning over, appeared on the screen the president was heard to say: "Maybe under here?"

5. The Mother of all Intelligence Failures, is between Bush's ears!
Look at how much the price of common Bullshit has gone up in just four short years! How much did this "commission on weapons of mass destruction" cost the tax payers!

Bush has the world's greenest thumb when it comes to GROWING GOVERNMENT for some bullshit reason! Anyone in America could have guessed, what Bush's commission on weapons of mass destruction would find! That Saint Shrub was 100% right all along, but that it was the rest of the world that had it all wrong, had to be the final outcome if this investigation! I wish to Gawd, someone would show his majesty how to pull his jolly green thumb out of his royal rectum with both hands!

6. I know none were found, but if Iraq did have them do you really think
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 07:15 AM by camaro3232
they would leave them lying around for us to find? I mean asshole Bush told the whole world we are coming to get them for a few months. They are probably buried somewhere in the desert. And I wouldnt classify them as "weapons of mass distruction" he probably has some nerve or mustard gas. Werent there some type of report that a type of gas was used on our troops in the first gulf war? I know some people that went over there and were real fucked up and strange when they came back, still are that way today.

8. The "buried in the desert" explanation fails for 3 reasons:
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 07:43 AM by BlueEyedSon
1. US surveillance technology. We have satellites that can observe what is going on in Iraq to a resolution of a few meters. There is little cloud or natural (i.e. forest canopy) cover to hide such an operation.

2. CIA "organizational" ego. If "buried in the desert" were a plausible scenario, don't you think that would be the CIA's explanation for their screwup?

3. Human nature & Greed. Some Iraqi would have cut a deal and become a hero (perhaps highly compensated) by showing US forces to the hole.

The meta-reason simple and evident in all aspects of the Bush admin. They practice FAITH-BASED EVERYTHING. Facts and reason are irrelevant. The believed, hoped, dreamed of WMDs... so they must have been there. Other examples:

Terri Scaivo is dancing and playing Scrabble in her hospice room.
There is no global warming.
Corporate welfare & tax cuts produce jobs.
Abstinence education results in... well, abstinence.
We will all be raptured in withing the next generation.
Saddam in cahoots with UBL/al Qaeda.

These guys are making policy, and life and death decisions (literally!) on "facts" which are DEMONSTRABLY FALSE.

11. Walter Pincus of the Washington Post talking about it on C-SPAN now.
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 08:03 AM by oasis
Seems during Bush's march to war that Pincus' buddies in the CIA were telling him there was faulty intelligence about WMD's in Iraq. He was one of the few writers to caution against the war for this reason.
