Anybody hear about US veterans donating organs/marrow to Iraqis?
Just heard a US veteran on BBC Radio 4 news saying that he's started a group of Vietnam Vets who want to donate a kidney or bone marrow to victims of the war in Iraq, in order to show that "Not all Americans are selfish people who get what they want with the barrel of a gun" and to draw attention to the unjust war and its victims.

Can't find anything on any news source about it, but it sounds like the most amazing thing in the world.

Guess what? The US administration isn't providing any help and won't even give them the telephone numbers of Iraqi hospitals.....

1. I heard the same report
according to the BBC website, the man is Bruce Gorcyca. A web search for the organisation "Veterans Organs Donors International" (or similar) turned up nothing. His name turns up this press release from February 16:

Donor is healthy, disease-free, non-drinker with O Negative blood type. The purpose of this donation is to show the Iraqi people that not all Americans are war-mongering, arrogant bullies. Transplant will take place here in Toronto at recipient’s expense. I urge other Americans opposed to the invasion/occupation to step forward and do the same.

I hope that the other google hits on the man's name, which are to do with fraud and a man known as either Anthony DiMarco or Bruce Gorcyca, are nothing to do with him.

5. What exactly is your problem?
If this is genuine then it's a fantastic gesture that ought to create huge media coverage of veterans against this unjust war. It will also help a few people. I say again, what is your problem with it?

7. Wow, that is awesome re the Vietnam vets and
despicable on the part of the bush admin. The vets understand being compassionate, it's unfortunate the bush admin have acted like compassion is a terrorist act.
