The head of the international police force Interpol has denied suggestions by some Americans that Canada is a "superhighway" for terrorists. Ronald Noble, secretary general of the organization and himself an American, offered that rebuttal in Ottawa during his first official visit to Canada since he became Interpol chief four years ago. Earlier this month, an editorial in the New York Times newspaper claimed that terrorists are crossing the U.S.-Canada border into the U.S. Mr. Noble says that, on the contrary, Canada has played a major role in promoting co-operation internationally among police forces to thwart terrorists. He added that Interpol appreciates that role as it strives to improve communication among the world's police. Interpol acts as a clearinghouse for information among police bodies.
