10:32PM CSPAN said "upcoming, Paul Wolfowitz, incoming
head of the World Bank"

This was a program note.

:wtf:

Doesn't the WB board of governors get to vote first?

Contact CSPAN and raise your concern about their editorializing.

1. http://www.c-span.org/community/submitwj.asp - ask your comment be read during the "open phones" segment.

2. Call (during regular business hours) - (877) 662-7726

3. Email Brian Lamb and the board of directors / viewer services - viewer@c-span.org

Call CSPAN on this slip!

3. Yes, today on C-Span there was OBVIOUS pandering to Wolfowitz too.
Talk about how it appeared he assured the EU members by telling them "helping people out of poverty was of extreme importance". C'MON!!! That doesn't mean he intends for the World Bank to HELP DO IT!

4. On what program was that said?
CSPAN repeats their segments, and communicates the schedule at www.cspan.org.

I'd like to see the re-broadcast.

If there is pandering, we should register our disgust. They are supposed to be unbiased.

Send comments via phone or email - www.cspan.org, then "contact us".

5. The program with that obviously right-wing woman whose name I don't know
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 04:38 PM by Carolab
The one who looks like a librarian, fat face, blond hair and glasses. It was sometime in the early afternoon, yesterday. She was at Walter Reed interviewing amputees shortly before this.

The comments that were made were to the effect that the EU members were satisfied with Wolfowitz's "reassurances" that helping third-world nations to rise out of poverty was important. It made it seem as though the EU thought being head of the World Bank could somehow be "reformative" for Wolfie...

6. No, not the Board of Governors
The president of the Bank is elected by our Board of Executive Directors, not our Board of Governors. The EDs, as we call the Executive Directors, have responsibility for the general operations of the Bank. That includes, under Article V, Section 5 of the Bank's Articles of Agreement, selecting the President. The Board of Governors handles things like admitting new members. I worked on getting Timor-Leste admitted as a member of the International Finance Corporation this past fall. Timor was already a member of IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development - this is what most people call the World Bank) but wanted to join IFC. The Board of Governors, which is the same for IFC, IBRD, MIGA, IDA and ICSID, collectively called The World Bank Group, had to vote to approve it.
