With a defacto draft in the form of stop-loss and talk of a US draft starting next month it occured to me. Iraq does not have a draft. Shouldn't they have one before we do?
2. They don't, but then they don't really need one.
The unemployment rate is so high in Iraq that they have a virtually unlimited supply of very desperate men willing to sign up for anything in order to make a living for themselves and their families. Virtually the only jobs available are for the police and the military, and even for those there are far more volunteers than there are positions.
