The whole tape is over 4 hours long and it was manipulated to send the message they wanted sent that says Terri Schiavo has a functional brain when in fact she does not. 90% of her brain is gone.

Research what being in a vegatative state means rather than taking the assumption that these snippets of video are real. I can understand it because most people want to believe that she is aware and it's easy to do with this thing, but it's not reality.

Her current condition is not the condition she was once in. The damage done to her in the initial incident created a deteriorating condition. Her brain has been atrophying since that day. The cerebral cortex has been disintegrating and being replaced with spinal fluid for the last 15 years.

Several years ago many hours of video were shot of her. The portions that seemed most like cogent behaviour were cut out and spliced together to form this tape. At the time she had more brain and the edits increase the perception of sentience.

But today over 90% of her cerebral cortex is gone. There is not enough brain left to form cogent thought. Our brains and more importantly her parents brains find patterns. They sometimes find patterns where there are none. Particularly in sound. Perception of language can come from completely nonorganised expressions.

Its the combination of these factors that make the video so convincing. Unfortunately evidence such as this is completely useless.

I would say her name over and over and over. I don't know why, just wanted to see if I could get any response.

Remember, 24 hours old (actually less when I started doing it).

I must have said her name a couple hundred times that 24 hour period. I said it normally, I sang it, I said it with different pitches and tones.

One time, she made this weird grimace face right after I said her name.

I think at one day old, she KNEW HER NAME and was voluntarily responding!!!!

I videotaped that whole day, and to prove she was a genius baby, I edited the tape to only include that one time I said her name and she grimaced right after.

I was one of the sheeple till I saw the videos for myself. I've had two family members with PVS, and they were nowhere near as responsive as Terri. Other members of my family have also been involved in the medical profession since 1976, so let's just say I've personally seen a lot more PVS patients than the vast majority of the yahoos spewing crap on this board, pretending they're expert neurologists after watching three weeks' worth of TV.

The first rule of medicine is that, for every doctor with one opinion about a patient, you'll find another doctor with a different opinion. Therefore, it is by no means possible that every doctor looking at this situation will believe Terri is in a PVS, and anyone here who says "all the doctors agree" is very much misinformed. In fact, there are enough doctors who disagree with this diagnosis to provide the news media with point/counterpoint sequences a-plenty. (And no, they aren't all fundie Christians, either.) There were also doctors who, years ago, thought Terri would have benefited from the therapy that Michael denied her.

So, given the startling images in those videos, I thought I should look beyond the headlines and read up on it...reading the stuff posted on Terri's family's site, as well as what the MSM have been spoon-feeding us. I'm convinced that there's something very suspicious about Michael, and that it needs to be investigated -- even after her death.

It's the most astounding thing to see how people on DU and other progressive boards have turned into the very people we've been criticizing all along: Sheeple who base their opinions on two-minute soundbites fed to them by the mainstream media, telling people to "get over it" when a court ruling goes against them (shades of Bush v. Gore!), calling protesters idiots. Protesting is an American right, whether it's a pro-Terri protest or an anti-war protest. Whether I agree with the protesters or not, I'll defend to my death their right to do so, provided they don't become violent.

I'd rather agree with the likes of Tom DeLay once in a great while, than turn into the kind of person capable of making the kind of cruel statements I've been reading here the past few weeks. You expect it on Yahoo groups, but not on DU.

People here are making horrible accusations about a family that simply wants to do what they feel is best for their daughter, a family that's concerned about very disturbing evidence. "Addicted to lawsuits"? "Craving attention"? Please! Just because someone's point of view isn't the same as yours doesn't mean they have a psychological problem! (The accusations being made against Michael Schiavo, by the way, are based upon actual evidence -- whether or not it's circumstantial needs to be addressed. But these accusations against Terri's parents are completely unfounded.)

I wanted to vomit when one person said that Terri "hasn't been human" for all these years. People in comas or brain-dead ARE human...even a corpse is "human", for heaven's sake! Such a statement is so callous, there simply aren't words to describe it.

No matter what your viewpoint, comments like these are completely uncalled-for, on a level with what the Freepers were spewing when Christopher Reeve died.

And those HAVE all been on the news. It was the first time I saw them with sound and I still have to say I am not seeing what you are seeing. Looks pretty reflexive to me.
