Is this some weird, new disease? Munchausen by Process Server?

1. They very well could be addicted to all of the attention they are
receiving - yes.

2. Financially addicted. They're broke, declared bankruptcy, are being
supported and legal fees paid by Reich Wing "Christian" groups.
She dies, they have no income.

4. I cannot imagine what they're thinking.
My mother died from alzheimer's. It took about 5 years. She died of natural causes, and I can tell you that the entire family sighed a huge sigh of relief when it was over. To see someone you once knew reduced to that, day after day, is just really painful.

5. They have been swept up in something larger than themselves
They were addicted to the hope that Terri might wake up. That was their first addiction. But then when the media storm hit them those that would take advantage of them gave them the approval for the hope they had clung to for so long that they gladdly became puppets for them.

They cannot let go of Terri. It is an obsession. Acknowledging the problem is the first step to recovering. But the media storm and activists have reinforced their delusion. As long as the body of Terri remains they can never heal. And due to the situation presently being played out they will take all the emotion and hope that is about to be destroyed and turn it against Michael and the system.

7. Now DU'ers are expert psychiatrists, too!
Are people here really so devoid of love for their own families, that they can't understand love in someone else's family?

God, and I used to think liberals were the compassionate ones.....

11. It's because people here love their families that they understand

that what the Schindlers are doing doesn't have to do with love for their daughter. In their grief, the Schindlers are being very selfish.

I think Friar Tuck announced that back on Sunday.

9. If any of my loved ones treated me like the Schindlers do Terri...
...they'd better be praying that I really am in a profound vegetative state, because if I were not, I would be focusing all of my strength and determination to throttle them for humiliating me in this fashion.

Seriously. If I were in a state like this, I would be enraged at my family, and seriously questioning the sanity of my family and reading the riot act for acting like total idiots.

I would consider it an act of love towards me to behave with dignity and to allow me to pass in peace.

Boy, the Schindlers and their supporters have more "conspiracy theories" than the JFK people do, and they say WE are the ones wearing the tin foil hats.

I understand the prolife position and i accept it, and unlike some I truly believe there are those objecting in this case who have pure motives (although they are in the minority)-- but what has transpired in this case is something far beyond it, that has a "life" way outside of Mrs Schiavo's, and for which Mrs Schiavo is just a pathetic pawn.

12. Can you say "Munchausen Syndrome" boys and girls?
You know, where parents are always running the kids to the doctors, and the ER - because the parents have a pathological need for attention and sympathy. Pathetic people who are pathologically starved for attention become parents and learn that they get lots of attention and sympathy whenever their kids have accidents or are sick enough to call a doctor or run to the ER. From this the parent progresses to causing recurring illnesses/accidents - such as (actual cases) injecting or feeding dirt or other caustic substances to the child.

I think the Schiavo case is a twisted variant of this mental illness. Certainly there was some pathology in the family home when Mrs. Schiavo was growing up - resulting in her having such a negative self-image of herself that she turned to bullemia.

(I am not a psychologist, but I have a Bachelor of Science in psych, and was a post-grad NIMH Research Fellow for 3 years.)
