National Call to Action:Student Walk Outs March 31st-No Draft No Way
March 31 National call to action.

No Draft, No Way!

On March 31, the Selective Service System (SSS) will report to President Bush that it is ready to implement the draft within 75 days. Right now, the SSS is staffing local draft boards, training volunteer registrars to work on high school and college campuses, and streamlining its induction process. They have also gained access to the Department of Education's computer files, to ensure maximum registration.

It is clear that the Bush Administration is preparing for a draft. They are desperate for new soldiers to continue the occupation of Iraq and to prepare for new wars against Iran, Syria, and elsewhere.

At the same time that Bush is looking to youth to supply cannon fodder for his wars, he is busy cutting financial aid and slashing social programs. The same young people that Bush wants to use to fight his wars are finding it harder to pay for their education, find jobs that pay a living wage, or obtain basic necessities, like health care or affordable housing.

It is time for young people, who are already under attack from the Bush Administration, to take a stand. On March 31, the same day that the Selective Service System is reporting that the draft is ready to go, youth all over the country will report that they will refuse to go.
Local No Draft, No Way organizers and other anti-draft activists are planning protests, walkouts, and direct action at recruiting centers, selective service offices, and other sites. We call upon students, youth, and antiwar activists to organize local actions on March 31 to say "No Draft, No Way!"

4. That is exactly why * is making it more difficult to get student
loans for college, if the kids or their parents can't afford it they will go into the military to help pay for their college or just to have a job. Seems like that is not working, these kids will find a way to get their education instead of becoming cannon fodder. Flame away at me if you wish, but that is one reason I do think a draft is the only fair way to level the playing field. Whether you can afford to send your kid to school or not he or she is eligible, maybe then they will hold their elected officals to a higher standard, more dialouge, better diplomacy, the TRUTH and someone with a brain elected for president. If those who can afford all never have to worry about their children why would they worry about anyone else. Before you flame away too much let me preface this with the fact that I have a 19 year old son and I can afford to pay to keep him in school. My son would sign up if any of his friends got drafted, can't say that I agree but I respect him for it. I pray that cooler heads eventually prevail and in 2006 we have a congress that can impeach this idiot, but it kills me to see the less fortunate in this country sacrifice for the greedy. I know more than one former student who could only afford to go to school thru the military. One of the reason I work so hard in trying to raise money for local scholarship money.

If you ever have an extra dime send it to your local high school and have them put it in there general scholarship fund. It' tax deductible.

5. Counter Recruiting
There are peace groups who are shadowing recruiters and presenting "the other side" of the recruiting story, i.e. the realities of the military's BS, as the recruiters go to campuses.
