Breaking: Bush Announces Final Plans To Renovate The Washington Monument!
Since he is busy remaking our government into a theocracy, he figured it was about time to update that old secular monument!

Behold Church AS State!

3. Just the thought ......
I honestly wouldn't put it past them to do something like that. :(

On my way home from St. Louis last weekend I passed a HUGE, Humongous Cross on I-57 in Effingham, IL. It's called...."The Cross" and they had signs all along the highway to "BE SURE AND VISIT "The Cross"....Don't forget to visit "The Cross!" You should see that thing. It's OBSCENE. Truly obscene. It looks just like your graphic...minus the guy hanging on it. ;) It's as tall as The Washington Monument too!

4. The Size Of Your Crucifix Does Not Matter. Its How You Use It!
Used to live in that area some years ago. I do not remember "THE CROSS". Maybe they put it there after I left!:puke:

15. There's one like that in Loudon County, Tennessee, too
It always disturbed me that they'd spend all that money building that monstrosity instead of, I don't know, feeding the poor or helping single mothers with housing and daycare.

16. How Many More Of These Giant Christian Phallic Symbols Litter The Land?
How many more poor could have been fed or children cared for?

It must make sense to them. They must think saving souls is more important than saving lives!

This was a previous suggestion I had for the same giant national phallus:

26. How, exactly, does that NOT violate the Second Commandment?
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."--Exodus 20:4-7

A literal reading of that would send every visual artist and every shutterbug straight to hell. Fortunately for those of us who create, our most prominent theologians have defined this to mean "no making idols"--which would make the most sense, because Judeo-Christianity was designed to replace the polytheistic and idol-worshipping religions that were popular at the time.

(This passage works with Exodus 20:2-3, which bans polytheism--the worshipping of multiple gods, as was done in Ancient Greece.)

Okay, so we are looking at a very hardcore fundamentalist church. They're probably selling tee shirts, postcards, keychains and all manner of trinkets to people who go to see The Cross--if they're not, SOMEONE in town is, so you know they're doing it themselves. I'd call this an idol, though; you know people rush to this town, drop to their knees in front of The Cross, and start praising His Name. Isn't this what Exodus 32 (the story of Aaron and the Golden Calf) was warning us against?

Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 09:43 AM by DistressedAmerican
Certainly Im going to hell for my graven images. Not to mention the lords name in vain thing and a boat load of other sins. Seems to me like I'll be seeing these folks when I get there. I'll say hello to Falwell for you if his screaming dies down long enough to do so.

How bout those crucifix nail necklaces being sold as merchandise for THE PASSION! See you in Hell Mel!

I think a website selling TRUE CROSS Splinters would go over big. All you'd have to do is offer an official looking certificate of authenticity and you'd be rich!

WON'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE THIS GUY RUNNING THE SHOW DOWN THERE AS WELL! THEN I'D DEFINITELY KNOW I WAS IN HELL!!! :evilfrown:  :evilfrown:  :evilfrown:  HA! HAA HAAA! HA!

12. I actually found the picture of the monument on a website
selling coffee beans. The site owner had a gallery of her travel pictures and she took a picture of the monument because it was unusual. I saw that sucker and thought, "I know what that is!"
Never even got my coffee bought...

I'm glad you are liking the efforts. I work hard enough at it to be considered unbalanced by most family and friends.

Any shopping would be great as I have sold next to nothing. It kind of surprised me. Let me know if you are interested in any of the new graphics. I haven't added them to the store yet but it is easy enough to do!

Have a good one.:loveya:

:hi:

On edit: I looked at both options before settling on one. I liked the Savior option in the end, More impact. But I was a bit bummed because JC obscures the center of the crucifix there I assure you the details of the photoshop work look fantastic. It was a bit of a pride thing. But message over ego! Pride is sinful anyway!

39. Bush's religiosity is skin-deep
If Bush's speechwriter wasn't an M.Div., no one would ever mistake Bush for a godly man. He pays lip service to Christianity in his speeches, but all his actions prove he is truly a ravenous wolf in sheep's clothing.
