The far right has set up GLBT re-education camps
CNN mentioned that one of the Schiavo protest groups was the "traditional values colation" which they indicated felt focus on the family was soft on GLBT issues. Hearing that I thought I'd see exactly what they were talking about.

So I paid a visit to their web site. I noticed they had a link to "Ministry and Counseling Resources For Those Struggling With Same-Sex Attractions And Other Gender Identity Disorders"

Filtering through the half a**ed web links they had to external sites, some of them broken all together, I found one that I can only describe as paying Hitler to go to one of his camps. Or as they apparently call it "live in ministry". Some of which apparently are also for "adolescents".

Basically it looks like the freaks have set up little anti-gay cure camps that you can ship you self (or your gay teen) to. A list of them can be found here http://exodus.to/ministry_pages/ministry-LiveIn.shtml

I read some of the brochures and "manuals" they have. Here are some highlights in case anyone is interested in exactly what they have going on. http://www.freedomatlast.org/Menu/Downloads/FAL%20Residential%20MANUAL.doc

"Christ offers a healing alternative to those with homosexual tendency. Freedom At Last upholds redemption for the homosexual as the process whereby sin's power is broken. The individual is freed to know and experience his or her true identity in Christ and His Church. This process entails the freedom to mature into heterosexuality. Choosing to resolve homosexual tendencies through homosexual behavior, taking on a homosexual identity, and involvement in the homosexual lifestyle is considered destructive as it distorts God's intent for the individual and therefore is sinful."

"The roots of sexual sin often stem from a lack of appropriate gender role modeling and a deficit of same-sex affirmation. This deprivation usually results in emotional dependencies, sexually addictive behaviors, gender confusion, deep-seated pain and misperceptions. "

Yes, I wonder where the pain and misperceptions could possible be coming from.

"We have many rules and regulations"

Here's where it gets good.

"Many of those who have gone through one year in the Residential program choose to work through additional issues during a second year. More liberation will be given during this second year. "

Holy sh*t! Second year???

"You are directly accountable to your house monitor. When encountering any situation needing counsel, direction or decision, you must go directly to him or her first. "

"If you feel anything unfair is going on within the leadership over you, you may ask for a meeting with the residential director concerning those issues. Please do not go to those outside of the ministry to solve your problems."

"During the first three phases of the program, you are not permitted to sing solos, play a musical instrument, or perform in church services. You may not serve in a ministry-oriented role such as teaching or leading worship for church functions"

"during the first three months you are not permitted to be alone at any time outside of the Residential house. "

"It is our desire that you form healthy, Godly friendships with your housemates, fellow program members, and leaders.

If we see elements in a relationship that are detrimental (including factors such as sexual attraction, "negative bonding" around something you both dislike, or signs of emotional dependencies), we may establish directives to place your friendships on a Godly course."

"During the year, you might experience intense sexual or emotional attraction to other program members. YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO TELL THAT PERSON OF YOUR ATTRACTION TO THEM. "

"Cell phones and pagers are not permitted. House phones are available for personal calls. Incoming calls cannot be received or made after 10:30 p.m. or before 7:00 a.m. unless it is a critical emergency. Also, phone calls may not be answered during dinnertime or house meeting times. "

"Please DO NOT give the phone number out to a past partner(s). "

"Work must be between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Part-time, evening, weekend or overtime work is not allowed without prior approval from leadership. Before you agree to a job, the salary offered must cover your monthly financial obligations and the position must have approval from leadership."

"You may not call in sick to work without speaking to leadership first. "

"Decisions on elective medical/psychological expenses must be discussed with leadership before proceeding"

"Leadership will conduct periodic reviews during the year. These reviews will evaluate your progress in the program. "

"For your protection, there are specific areas that are
off-limits to program members:

- Those parks and public restrooms identified as "gay" or cruising areas.
- Any adult bookstores or theaters
- All mall restrooms
- Any gay bars, clubs, etc.
"

BAHAHAHA. The first and third ones are great.

"Television viewing is not permitted unless approved by your house monitor. However, we do have times when video viewing is permitted.

We strongly encourage watching Christian videos. ALL videos watched must have a "G" or "PG" rating. Some videos may not be suitable due to their subject matter. Consult the house monitor when a movie is questionable. "

"Only Christian and classical music is allowed in the Residential houses. "

"You are expected to be in the house no later than 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday"

"Leadership may ask you to stop any behavior or manner of speech that glorifies the gay image. “Camping” (the use of gay terms and mannerisms) is not permitted, neither are gay jokes and innuendoes. Also, any conversation that glorifies your past sin is not allowed under any circumstances. This includes sharing descriptive details of previous sexual encounters and fantasies.

This is not to say we do not want you to share about your past at the appropriate times. This is usually during your weekly one-on-one with leadership. If sharing with a house member, please give only facts, not details. "

Only facts not details... Mental gymnastics in work.

"Sarcastic conversations and humor are aspects of the gay image for many. This type of communication is usually at someone else’s expense, and very demeaning. Please refrain from sarcasm and be open to learning new, Godly ways of communicating."

LOL.

"Personal computers, cell phones, pagers, etc. are not allowed."

"All personal reading material is to consist of program related literature."

"The monthly program fee ($600) includes: rent; the evening meals, Monday through Friday (breakfast and lunch on your own); all utilities; basic phone charges; and basic house staples. Fees also include required study materials. "

I can only imagine the damage this shit does to people. The scary thing is people actually spend TWO YEARS of their life here paying $600 a month to do so. Can you imagine parents sending teens here? I wonder what the suicide rate is.

2. cute movie about this called "But I'm A Cheerleader"
It's a fiction story, not a true story, but it was inspired by these camps and the teens who survive them.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

3. This is disgusting
I wouldn't be surprised of the suicide rate either. Anybody, gay or not, would go nuts there with their rules. This really tells all I think:

<"If you feel anything unfair is going on within the leadership over you, you may ask for a meeting with the residential director concerning those issues. Please do not go to those outside of the ministry to solve your problems.">

They are true control freaks! They want to control everything and make you like them.

"During the first three phases of the program, you are not permitted to sing solos, play a musical instrument, or perform in church services. You may not serve in a ministry-oriented role such as teaching or leading worship for church functions"

They must be on to all of us flamingly gay church musicians.

Oh, and...

"Only Christian and classical music is allowed in the Residential houses. "

Have they no idea how many classical composers were gay? Or how much classical music is an expression of sexual feelings? Somebody better clue them in!

8. Ah yes ... Exodus International
That's the one where two of it's top ex-gays (top in the sense of "leading," not the Jeff Gannon/Bulldog sort of "top") fell in love and left the organization to set up housekeeping.

I wonder if it's the same program John Paulk from Dobson's Focus on the Family went through. If so I wonder if Dobson sent him back for a refresher course after Johnnie got recognized in a Washington, D.C., gay bar just a few months after he and his Ann Coulter-look-alike wife graced the cover of Newsweek as the poster-pukes for the ex-gay movement?

If my eyes could roll any faster over all this ex-gay crap-fest, they'd roll right out of my head. :eyes:

9. I frequently make comments here on DU--
--about the "forced reorientation interment camps".

Hearing that they already exist, albeit in a semi-voluntary form, terrifies me. (And I say 'semi-voluntary', because I can easily see teens being forced into these places.)

*shudder*

13. Could it be the camps are funded with faith-based funds?
Are the "re-education" camps going to be privatized, instead of being totally state-owned?
Will they be run by fundy nut jobs? :scared:

How many teens do you know who would voluntarily leave their friends and family to go to a concentration camp?

A friend of mine in TX first told me about these places about 10 years ago. I couldn't believe it. But, they've been around for a long time. These poor kids. Wonder what the suicide rate is.

10. "Overcome"
Anyone ever see the Mr. Show sketch about this type of "re-education"? It had David Cross playing a gay guy that would go on this televangelical program and "testify" how he was cured. WHat was funny was that they had a series of clips over a 10 year period or so where he would keep coming back and "testifying" after having relapse after relapse. It was hilarious.

Those poor kids. It's in full motion now, sending Gay teens to prison cult camps...WTF?

This is some very, very, very weird shit.

We have reason to be seriously alarmed and concerned. This cult is taking over our country.

27. Your post struck a raw nerve in me
I have an uncle who is not quite out but out to me, and I love him and his partner. I love my mom but I'm so angry that she is living in denial because her stupid church (although I'm not sure I can quite call it a "fundie church" as it's nondenominational) sent her to Exodus a few years back. I have many gay friends and this would literally kill some of them.

It's really depressing. My uncle's partner was also sent to an Exodus-like fiasco back in the early 90s because he is Mormon. To this day, he still believes in God and believes he's a Mormon, but he's out.

I fucking hate Exodus...you don't even know...

Due to ignorance and apathy of our society...I don't think most people are aware of the pain and violence that is inflicted on Gays in our society. Camps like this and other hate orgs perpetuate such horror. It's so sad and it's an outrage that people turn a blind eye.

I wish the best to you and your loved ones!
