The phrase "We still have her" speaks volumes about what this whole sad affair is really about. Schindler and his wife are being unbelievably selfish in forcing their daughter to continue living in the state she is in. They are more concerned about taking care of their own feelings than of what is best for her. Disgusting.

10. It hasn't been too long

I lost count but it hasn't been too long. I think it depends on the person. When my great-uncle had his plug pulled it took him two days. Of course he had bad alzhimers (like Reagan) so that's probably why and he was up in his years. This woman is still pretty young (forty-one I believe?). From what I've been hearing it's supposed to take anywhere around two weeks.

They have admitted in the past that Terri is beyond help. They have also admitted that they would do anything -- including amputating her limbs and performing heroic surgery -- to keep her body alive. They have even admitted that if she had a written, witnessed, official DNR order, they would fight to have it overturned -- just so they could have her with them.


They went beyond "loving" their daughter a long time ago.

I had to have my dog euthanized several months ago, and this is something I do not like to talk about, so I'll keep it brief. As my husband and I discussed the option, we went over the notion that we had to do what was best for this beloved pet, NOT WHAT WOULD MAKE US HAPPIER AT HIS EXPENSE.

There is no longer any concern for Terri in what the Schindlers are doing -- there is only pathological selfishness.


Many other people are faced with decisions like this every single day. Most of them manage to be rational in their grief. Many donate organs so that others might live and have a better quality of life.

I feel sorry that the Schindlers, perhaps under the influence of these rabid fundies, have turned away from their love for their daughter and toward the most unchristian, unloving, uncharitable selfishness that we've seen them embrace over the past few months.

They therapy and pity, but they do not need encouragement.
