West Texas school district to study allowing Bible-based class
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D8957O580.html

A West Texas school board will at least consider the possibility of the district offering a Bible-based class as an elective in the high schools.

A packed audience gave a standing ovation Tuesday after the Ector County school board heard a presentation from a man representing the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools on offering such a class.

Mike Johnson of the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools told the board Tuesday that coursework designed by that organization is not about proselytizing or preaching.

"Our course is done in a very objective fashion," Johnson said. "We understand that you can teach the students, but not preach to them."
Johnson said the coursework would include the Bible's impact on America's founding fathers, students' understanding of geography of the Middle Eastern countries and the influence of the Bible in art and culture.

1. of course - dishonesty is the BEST policy
"it's not what it looks like . . . REALLY!!"

bullshit. You microencephalic pig fuckers out in west Texas - then please be sure to teach the merits, history and influence of Wicca in people who leave the christian fold, or the history of coopted paganism in christianity.

This one walks, smells and quacks like a duck. I'll bet you my firstborn human child it is a duck.

2. i live in west texas
will have to see where ector county is. took kids out of fundie school to get them away from religion. they would have to be real real careful, cause if i see any factual misrepresentations, i am going ot yell. loud. i am not going to historically and factually misinform kids, in an academic enviroment

could be an interesting battle

3. hey, it's one of the foundation pillars of western civilization
as long as it's not a science class, or mandatory, of an ersatz church, more power to them. One of the best and most interested classes I took in college was comparative religion.

7. Texas definition of "compare"...
means "our God is better than your God". I wouldn't hold my breath over any neutral/unbiased comparison lessons going on....

5. Friday Night Lights
The HS Football movie is in Ector County, Odessa Midland Area. They had separate schools for minorities up until the late seventies. They fought intergration of the schools 'til the end when the courts stepped in. This doesn't surprise me.

6. Ector Count is Odessa, Texas
Midland is a different adjacent county.

True, Permian High from the book Friday Night Lights was Odessa, or Ector County.

Have you got anything to back that up? I played 5A football in the same district as Permian, during the mid to late 60's. Wasn't aware they were not integrated.

Midland is not in Ector county, its in Midland County
