producing my fist product for my company, a map package wtih some fluff, no, there are no politics in there really.. anyhow OpenOffice 2.0 Beta just ate the whole document.

The program still looks like a good deal (problems and all) but will do the initial work on Open Office 1.7 stable edition and then do the layout (has what looks like a decent copy of frame amker) in 2.0

2. You are probably right I never post over there, or mostly never

technically, it means that the document is down to the name only....

It happens, General Open Licence, program competes wiht Microsoft.. and it is free to the final user... but they do a lot of testing as in open testing, and version 2.0 still has some bugs

On the plus side... I am not on a crunch... so far have been able to plan ahead for things like this

Well no more beta versions. And keep a backup of your work. USB flash drives are relatively cheap..... :hi:

And yes I wil use the Beta to do the final layout, far cleaner than version 1.7, I think. That is how we all help to kill the beast that is microsoft

By the way, do use their stable version... it is as good as MS Office... I also use GIMP, a great imaging program (Photoshop) and it was worth all the money I paid for it, Free.

Now let me see try to do at least half of chapter one...

Oh and the good news it is fresh in my mind so this is almost like doing a draft two.

1.1.4 is stable, and reads MS documents, and can also save them in Word format, if you so choose, so sharing is easy... oh and this is going well, will manage to get at least half a chapter done... and yes it will be larger. The part that I suspect crashed Beta was the heavy use of graphics...

OpenOffice has an autosave feature, but I'm not sure if it is on by default or how to retrieve early versions if the latest version is corrupt.
