I am PO'd. More than PO'd.
This morning, I posted:

"Says Rep. Bonner in his defense of the War:

"The great thing about this country is if you don't like it, you can leave."

I just wrote a check to the DNC and donated it in the name of Rep. Jo Bonner...

Anyone willing to join me?"

I sent a check to the DNC.

Then this evening, I received a call from a person with an accent that could only be Hindu asking for a donation to the DNC. Are we outsourcing our fund raising to India? If we are, I will no longer donate. Period.

1. What exactly is a "Hindu" accent?
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 10:09 PM by Spider Jerusalem
Hinduism is a religion, not a language.

who sounded pretty hot...so I donated.

2. I don't think so
I had a call this afternoon as well for DNC donations and the caller was a 79 year old man with a NewYork accent. Can't afford another donation right now.

4. Husband and I pay phone tag with phoners that have accents. I got
a call last night. Husband said it was an Indian. I figured it was a credit card call, but tonight I caught the call and he asked for a donation to the DNC. I could barely understand him. I finally said that I sent a check today.

"Aw, very fine." He hung up. What American telephone solicitor says, "Aw, very fine?"

3. huh?
Is it possible the person with the "hindu" accent (I assume you mean Indian) was in the good old USA? There are many nationalities here you know.

7. I mean Hindu as opposed to Muslim. I get calls from India all the time
about charge cards. I received a card in the mail today without ever soliciting it. But a call asking for funds for the DNC sounded like outsourcing to me.

10. I would just ask them next time
or call the DNC and ask if they have call centers in India, but without that info you can't be sure it was from India

14. Thanks, I shall. But with all the jobs being outsourced, I went ballistic
And when you can barely understand a request for a donation to the DNC, that is not acceptable.

8. When I suspect a call is coming from overseas.......
...I just ask where they are calling from.

If they say anwhere other than the US and it is an American company then I screw with 'em. I figure the least I can do is keep them on the phone as long as possible :)

9. When I gave a credit card donation over the phone to the DNC
right after Dean was elected chair, the woman I talked to sounded like she was from the Midwest.

How do you know it wasn't an American with an accent?

20. Bouncy, I have never received a call prior to this. Are you in a Red
State or a Blue State? I am in the reddest of red. I live in an area of retired military. There are 10 reds for every blue in my county, and I receive a call from a solictor that I can barely understand?

The words I understood were donation, DNC, very fine.

If this was a call from the DNC to an area of reds and is barely understood, and smacks of outsourcing, it is not bright. The military is not keen on outsourcing.

Call the DNC tomorrow and ask them! Tell them what you told us...don't just blow them off unless you know for sure.

,...outside the U.S.?

Why would you make such a ludicrous assumption?

16. Ummm, hello?

An accent in this country is in no way an indication you're talking to someone outside the US. In fact, if the person has an indentifiable accent, it's more likely you're talking to a US resident than not. Why? Those call center companies in India and elsewhere spend significant energy trying to teach those that work for them how to speak without it.

Everyone with whom I work has an accent of some sort, Given where I live, Asian and Mexican accents are most common, and when they speak on the phone, those accents are apparent.

Don't jump to conclusions based merely on a person's voice.

19. I also check the caller id. I don't remember the
international codes for India off the top of my head, but I have received them before from Discover card before I closed my account.

And if there is no caller id number, I don't answer.
