The whole Schiavo thing makes me sad.
I have seen pictures of her from before she had her heart attack and she seemed like a vibrant, pretty young woman full of life and practically lost it to become what she is now. The though of having to let someone die is something that makes me sad. It is a hard decision that people have had to make regarding family members when there is no hope left. Not as sad though as the way the Republicans have been trying to milk this to have an excuse to intrude more on someone's life. Terri, I am sorry that this has happened to you. I hope you find the peace and the freedom that you haven't had in life.

1. She helped us
destroy the repugs. This has been a historic week.

2. Indeed it is a sad thing to behold....these video clips constantly on CNN
etc are beyond pale...

What is it about this Society that creates these kinds of conditions

allowing exploitation of a sad and tragic human who only wanted the best in life,,,,but then finding herself trapped in limbo.

I am sure if she had any thoughts...she would want to be in Heaven or wherever we are supposed to go...and that if she had a say...she would want the suffering to end and the Better life begin. That the Fundies want her to continue suffering in a miserable state is so revealing.....

\Come, we go Cry....

7. Yes-- if heaven is so wonderful, why won't they just let her go there?
Do they really think she is happy in this life???????????

4. Welcome To Death
Nothing hurts more during the last days of a loved one than seeing the shell of a person and remembering them as vibrant, younger people. This is especially the case when someone suffers a devestating injury...such as parlysis or mental trauma that robs them of their youth. Unfortunately, life isn't fair. Medical science for all its marvels, still can't cure the common cold and can't be the do-all, end-all so many think they are.

The shamelessness of the cable networks to constantly flash the same pictures and edited video over and over and over again has made this story seem different than it is. Many think/thought, Mrs. Schiavo just suffered this trauma...that last month she was tripping the light fantastic and this is some kinda of "disability" others have come out of. Shameful and it's added to the confusion and angst of this sad tragedy.

Also, when we see all those pictures, these are from the good times...weddings, vacations...the highlights of a life where things are good, all are happy...a moment in time. I've heard this woman fought with weight problems her entire life (and some say esteem issues) and this is left out of the story.

Unforunately, this poor shell of a human has been hijacked for a morality play by people with their own agendas and profit, and use the emotions to trump the truth and reality in manufacturing "news".

5. We need a gag order - please
No more LIVE, on-air, comments from ANYONE regarding their opinion on any aspect of Terri Schiavo's situation, whether it be her "emotional" or physical state, legal wrangling, etc.

I've heard enough to last a lifetime from people who refuse to come to gripes with reality.

6. I think I am being realistic.
Her life ended 15 years ago. It is sad that it happened. I hope that she can find peace that she couldn't find in life and in the so-called existence that she has been living the last 15 years. And I think it is horrible what her parents, the media and the Republicans are doing to her now.

I assume you've seen this:

The Testimony provided by members of the Schindler family included very personal statements about their desire and intention to ensure that Theresa remain alive. Throughout the course of the litigation, deposition and trial testimony by members of the Schindler family voiced the disturbing belief that they would keep Theresa alive at any and all costs. Nearly gruesome examples were given, eliciting agreement by family members that in the event Theresa should contract diabetes and subsequent gangrene in each of her limbs, they would agree to amputate each limb, and would then, were she to be diagnosed with heart disease, perform open heart surgery. There was additional, difficult testimony that appeared to establish that despite the sad and undesirable condition of Theresa, the parents still derived joy from having her alive, even if Theresa might not be at all aware of her environment given the persistent vegetative state. Within the testimony, as part of the hypotheticals presented, Schindler family members stated that even if Theresa had told them of her intention to have artificial nutrition withdrawn, they would not do it. Throughout this painful and difficult trial, the family acknowledged that Theresa was in a diagnosed persistent vegetative state."

8. the media could stop it
without any court order.

They could simply stop televising comments from everybody and their brother.

I've done that before, back when I was a print journalist. I stopped writing stories when there was nothing newsworthy to offer. It really is that simple.

The media should be harrassed endlessly to stop exploiting this poor woman and to stop providing the vehicle for her "family" to do so as well.
