Here's documentation for today's Cheny lie
Correction, one of Cheney's big lies.

This morning on Meet the Press, he said "And since I left Halliburton to become George Bush’s vice president, I’ve severed all my ties with the company, gotten rid of all my financial interests. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind and haven’t had now for over three years."

http://www.msnbc.com/news/966470.asp?0dm=C21AV

On his financial statement (from thesmokinggun) in an Aprill 13, 2001 White House press release:

"Mr. Cheney received a cash bonus $1,451,389 from Halliburton in January of this year, which will be included in the 2001 tax return."

3. Russert was too busy helping Cheney explain away previous lies
I just had to laugh when he showed Cheney's previous tape and then, before Cheney could even answer, Russert said, "You mis-spoke?"

Cheney looked grateful and said, "Yes, I mis-spoke..." Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Russert's brown-nosing would be hilarious if it was so infuriating.

2. If you say something enough time, it becomes true.
I think this is the watchword for the Bush administration. I used to think this when Bush was running. He would say these outrageous things over and over and he always had a look on his face like a kid who knew he just got away with something. Then, recently, I heard Wolfie before congress and he said something that struck me...something about confidence being a big part of success...then Dick, today...bullshit with a straight face...this is their opinion of the American people...if they say something enough times we'll swallow it. Back to Wolfie...it's confidence not competence and truth that counts. We really need a truth squad to haunt these people.

6. My email to Timmidity Russert

Just finished sending this off to mtp@nbc.com

Dear Mr. Russert,

Congratulations on the fine job you did today allowing Mr. Cheney on your program to cover up his previous lies with more unchallenged lies.

Fortunately in spite of the best efforts of the US corporate media to provide cover for the corrupt gang of oil soaked crooks in the Bush administration, the truth is getting out anyway. The PNAC connections of the Bush gang and the stated and publicized goals of PNAC to act unilaterally to impose American hegemony over the Middle East and the worlds largest remaining sources of conventional oil, taken in conjunction with the willingness of the administration to engage in lying and wild exaggerations of potential threats (with the willing help of their compliant servant, the mainstream media) does more to explain why US soldiers and Iraqi civilians are dying today than anything anyone will ever find from watching Meet the Press.

The unanswered questions surrounding 9/11 are NOT going away. They are no longer just confined to "conspiracy" sites on the web. It's sad commentary on the state of the media in general that individuals like 9/11 widow Kristen Breitweiser have to do your job for you and raise the issues and ask the questions that would be asked by the media in a country that truly did have have a free press.

The only thing that will give me greater satisfaction as I watch the coming downfall of this unelected fraud's administration will be seeing the loss of reputation and credibility of prominent members of the sycophantic US media who have from day one pandered unceasingly to Bush and his administration and who rushed to assure us during the election campaign that it didn't matter if Bush himself was inexperienced in foreign affairs, an intellectual lightweight and a cardboard cutout because when he became president he would surround himself with "knowledgeable" advisors. Some president, some knowlege, some advisors.

Regards

for the right. Everyone who follows politics knows that Cheney is still on Halliburton's payroll in excess of a million dollars annually. Yet the public at large gets this crap interview from Russert.

8. Slick Chenney...
When he accepted the v.p. slot, he claims to have severed all ties with Halliburton. He then chose to have his golden parachute money placed into a trust account over a peride of years to avoid paying taxes on his windfall. Too bad he won't disclose how much he was to get from his former company. Without any info on what he was owed, all his trust account is used for is to launder payoff money for favors passed to Halliburton.

Impeach Bush and Chenny....for a better tommorow!

I was unaware that the payment amounts were never specified. I had thought it was a sort of billionaire's pension or something. So the amounts due have never been disclosed, and can never be compared to the amounts paid. I'd love a source for that - know any?

9. Russert A Lifelong Democrat - BUT...
I honestly think his show is weak all the way around. He was Chief Of Staff to Patrick Daniel Moynihan and was counselor for Governor Mario Cuomo. He probably had a little of Moynihan rub off on him. Moynihan was a neocon before "neocon" was understood. But, Moynihan was a gallant liberal on domestic issues. But then, so was Jeanne Kirkpatrick. Both active at one time in Social Democrats, USA.

15. "lifelong" would mean he opposes Bush NOW...
...personally, I've never seen him support a liberal position on his show EVER. I have seen him openly support Bush and his policies.

If he's such a lifelong Democrat he would hav mentioned many of the things people are saying on this board...

I think I explained that. One can be a lifelong Democrat and do the switcheroo. I also know some pretty right-wing democrats. Since we don't know his party affiliation today - we don't know. I just presented the history of Russert. No big deal!

19. Russert now works forJack Welch

Russert now works for Jack Welch, a right wing republican and Bush supporter- I would guess his party affiliation is pretty much GOP- he pretty much openly supports Bush policy.

All my post does is further question the myth that media types are pro- Democrat- people always try to say Matthews and Russert must support Dems because they worked for them 20 years ago...When they start asking the questions that real democrats would ask, I'll believe it.

Here is a good link on MSNBC and Russet's pro-Bush bias...

10. "Why did you distribute Iraq oil maps to your Energy Task Force ...
... members? Why did you also give them detailed lists of Halliburton's international competitors for Iraq oil infrastructure development?"

That would have made a GREAT question on 'Meet the Press' this morning. See http://www.judicialwatch.org/071703.b_PR.shtml for documentation.

Iraq "war" widows watching Russert's show might have started to wonder to what extent their loved ones' lives may have been lost because of Cheney's and Dubya's "severed" ties to the oil bidness.

It is so frustrating that no one ever calls him on this stuff. MTP must have a research staff. Someone could have gotten this info in 5 minutes little effort. But no, Timmy just lets it slide. Damn this pisses me off.

13. Cheney is the best liar in the whole Administration.
Not that he's believable, with his sideways glances and permanent sneer he'd look like a liar even if he was telling the truth. Which I'm sure isn't a very frequent occurrence.

He's just completely brazen about it. He recycles old lies, spins new spin, revises and fabricates history, dredges up old propaganda...this guy has all the moves. You know he's lying so fast you can't even keep track of them, but it just creates a shimmering haze over the whole discussion. I'm sure the average viewer can't even remember what was said.

The master of up-is-downism. Up IS down. 2 plus 2 IS five. He's just so damn sure of it.

21. A quote that killed me-
in response to naming the number of war dead in Iraq-"Yes, I know, but you must remember that 3,000 were killed on September 11 in the World Trade Center". But not by Iraqis, Dick. And you wonder why more than half of the people in this country think that Hussein was involved? No matter what the question, September 11 always figures in the answer. Propaganda at its finest. Goebbels would be proud.

25. I was shocked to hear him cite Tuwaitha, as he rattled off his WMD lies
He mentioned Tuwaitha, and the uranium there, as if this were WMD evidence. He, himself, stated that those barrels had already been sealed by the IAEA in previous inspections.

What he FAILED to mention was the post-invasion LOOTING at Tuwaitha, and the failure of the U.S. occupation forces to secure Tuwaitha. Assuming that they believe their own lies about Iraqi nuclear "programs," why would they not, at the very least, secure the main Iraqi nuclear facility from looting? If they really believed Iraq was a potential nuclear threat, why did they fail to secure the main nuclear site. They allowed materials suitable for dirty bombs to be looted. Why?

Answer: because those troops were needed to secure the Oil Ministry. And, because they didn't believe their own WMD lies for a second.

26. He still owns stock OPTIONS, receives about 1 mil retirement a year
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 02:30 AM by janekat
and received a package over $20 million from them when he left the company (after only being there for 5 years and screwing up the books there).

He goes around claiming that he sold all of his stock in the company - which is only "semi techically" true - he still owns tons of stock OPTIONS and will most likely "exercise" those (basically sell them) once he's out of office. That's like saying "I sold all of my stock in a company BUT I still have bonds". What people should be asking him is "What about all of your HOLDINGS?"

If the stock value goes way up - those options are worth a lot of money.

I'd love to know how much stock, etc. his wife and family has in the company too.

Also, don't tell me that he's not going to be offered a job, a loan, or some other perks by Halliburton once he's out of office. GIVE ME A BREAK! And people (such as the CNN financial people) fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Conflict Of Interest For Vice President?
By David Lazarus
San Francisco Chronicle
Sunday, 3 November, 2002
Less well-known is that Halliburton owns a subsidiary called Kellogg, Brown & Root, which is one of the Defense Department's leading contractors. ......KBR, as the company's called, is profiting handsomely from America's war on terror.

..........Cheney retired from Halliburton in August 2000. He received $4.3 million in deferred compensation that year, plus $806,332 in salary. He subsequently sold more than $40 million in stock options. Even though he's no longer in Halliburton's executive suite, Cheney reported on his 2001 tax return that he received nearly $1.6 million in deferred compensation from the company last year.

Cheney is still receiving deferred compensation from Halliburton, but neither the company nor the White House would specify how large his payment will be this year or how long the payments will continue. This is cash that he's already earned. Yet it's also cash that Halliburton is accruing in part from its activities in Guantanamo Bay and Afghanistan.
"He's receiving money from the government and money from a private-sector company with government contracts," said Allison. "Whose payroll is he on?" The answer: Both of them. And that couldn't be right.
