most of us here understand the bushies belief in the 'sacntity of life' does not extend to those not their xmas card list, and that their commitment to the fundies doesn't really amount to more than lip service.

and while looneys may be pissed that jeb and georgie didn't march troops into the hospice and sieze terri, when it come down to brass tacks, where are the going to take their votes?

the politicos, on both sides of the aisle, did their little pandering song and dance, but in the end, the religiously insane, and the typical conservative idiots will go back their sheep-like worshiping at the bushco alter.

heck, they've just voted for 4 more years of war and recession, lies and corruption, why would they let this little blip shake their faith?

1. I concur...this is not going to do anything but distract us from
real things going on.

2. Not Sure I agree
"where are the going to take their votes?"

My guess is that they stay home or at least not come out in the strength or fervor they did in 2004. Or vote 3rd party.

I knows some fundies if they are convinced there is litlle difference between D an R in the issues the care about (ie abortion), I think they will stay home.

4. don't bet the house on it...
fundies and other assorted loonies may not get every thing they want -- but they may get enough.

every body loves a winner -- and as long as bushco and neocons LOOK like winners to them -- they may well stick with them.

worst case scenario is that the loonies turn schiavio into a martyr.
though to me -- they are perverts.

3. I think it will do some harm
How much remains to be seen.

The loonies will be pissed and that will affect their support for *co. They are in the minority though.

It is the average citizens that I think are starting to wake up and once woken will not go back to the fog. They trusted *co on issues like the war, the economy, etc because they assumed the gummint knew more about these matters than they do. Social conservatives didn't object to the anti-gay and anti-abortion trends, because it didn't affect them directly (they would never do such things anyway)

But now *co has inserted themselves into something everyone will do - die - and it is hitting home for them

5. Maybe...
I agree that the extremist base will not let this shake them, but I think there are many moderate church goers who are just a little pissed that their comfortable Sunday morning profession of faith ritual is turning into a haven for wackos. Some "normal" people, Dem and Repub both, just want to live a good life which, for them, includes an hour or so on Sunday morning followed by a nice brunch. It's a peaceful respite for them, and now that's being hijacked by the extremists. I think a large group of churchgoers are a little agitated that the far right is interfering with their tradition.
IMO, a lot of people are getting tired of the divisiveness, and are beginning to see who's responsible. I think it will make a difference.

6. Agreed
This will end well before the next election. They have a giant media machine, and they'll be able to force people to forget whatever happened in March of 05. People still think there are, or we found, WMD in Iraq. There will be another problem, or another Swift Boat, or that good ol' American short attention span that doesn't care about history will pop up again. Hospice, what's a hospice?
