Poll question: If you were in a PVS, how long would you want to be kept on a feeding tube
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 10:41 PM by Donailin
PVS - Persistent Vegatative State. And the question should be applied to yourself, not your mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, husband, wife or cat. or iguana.

1. I say a year
And after seeing professional doctors who I KNOW aren't any of these whacks and they say there's no hope for me to recover then I'd want to be pulled and go in peace.

21. Exactly. I told my husband a month, but he dissuaded me.
A year is a fair amount for everyone's sake, IMHO.

My wife knows my wishes. No feeding tube ever.

7. Whoops, sorry
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 10:11 PM by Donailin
but Terry was resuscitated and went into a Coma, they had no idea what she would be like when she came out of it. The tube was inserted during the comatose state, I believe.

9. Yeah, and with me my wife knows the drill, no feeding tube ever
If a similar event happened my wife will not allow a feeding tube to be inserted in the first place. None. It won't happen. I want no feeding tube under any circumstances.

5. My option wasn't in your poll! I never want a feeding tube at all!
If you never put one in, you never have to worry about taking it out!

I'd rather just die than preserved for some less than normal life in the future.

10. With the health problems that I have
I have already put my wishes in writing for my wife and doctor. No feeding tube and no heroic measures whatsoever. I have already had three heart attacks and three strokes. Have arteriosclerosis that is affecting the pulmonary artery. At my age (67) and with all this the doctors I know all agree that there is only a 1 in 10 chance that I will survive another cardiac episode.

6. I say a year or less
If scans show there's nothing in there, let me go. If I'm not conscious, there's no point. I'm wagering that no one will answer more than five years. I trust that folks here are reasonable and unselfish. I trust that even those who want Terry to stay alive would not want that for themselves. And that would be a double standard, which it is what I want to point out.

19. Yep, even if I was conscious and they said they had to do a feeding tube
I would consciously refuse.

20. Again, I'm sorry.
I was working on the assumption that no one would vote for longer than a reasonable amount of time to be sure there was no hope of someone regaining consciousness.

'Never want one in the first place' is certainly an acceptable answer, and it still proves my point, agree?
