Schiavo: Suffering bulimia, anorexia didn't want to eat fifteen years ago
now the republicans want to continue to force feed her, for how long? Another fifteen years, twenty-five, thirty more years?

As the republicans lie about her condition, as if one day Schiavo is going jump up demand better food and start tap dancing around the room.

These are sick, selfish, greedy, lying republicans...who want only one think...to CONTROL!!

3. Her heart attack was caused by
lack of phosphate - she was starving herself and she suffered a heart attack

Now is truly is starving to death - stranger than fiction

5. this is the irony of this situation and the media has been lax as usual.
they have mentioned a few times that she had a heart attach (died first time), but never mention how it was that a 25 yr old would have a heart attach. maybe, they themselves that not thought of the question.

4. Her parents had to know about her eating disorder
Her uncle was on MSNBC this morning talking about it. He said she was on diets almost her whole life. In her HS yearbook picture, which they showed, she weighed 200 lbs.

Just another slam they try to aim her husband. She started dieting LONG before he ever met him.

6. The rhetoric is out of control on both sides of this issue
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 03:08 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
My points are as follows:

Some people on the left are speaking of Terri Schiavo's physicality in completely demeaning terms. This is heartless.

Some people are citing costs of care as though that should ever be a litmus test.

Some people are discussing the case and when discussing her condition using graphic terms which are more for shock value than as a means of describing a clinical state.

On the OTHER side of the issue, we have people describing those that follow judicial process as murderers.

We have people comparing allowing her to die to the holocaust.

We have people who want Bush's judges appointed claiming the judiciary is out of control when SOME of that judiciary is Bush's appointments and MOST are REPUBLICAN appointments.

The rhetoric on both sides leaves much to be desired.

Persistent vegetative state equals tragic and complex..

while her eating disorders contributed to and created this condition, let's TRY to speak of it in terms of the tragedy rather than some notion that "WELL, She did it to herself."

10. Well said
I have said little regarding this matter because I'm not completely sure what to think, but some of the posts here made me somewhat uncomfortable. There is no reason to be demeaning or insulting to her...Her parents? Perhaps - the use of Terry Randal or whateever his name is as a spokesman doesn't speak very highly of their character.

7. Sounds like her folks may have been in the "clean your plate" school
The fact that they're going so far to get that feeding tube back into her gives me the creeps. They still want their way to control her. Must have been some upbringing.

8. I strongly, strongly object to your linking
her bulimia and anorexia in any way with her current situation -- as if she somehow deserves to be starved now or it's okay to starve her now since she "tried to starve herself" so many years ago. It's inappropriate, heartless, cruel, demeaning, and probably sexist. It's also cruel for anyone who may be lurking or a member who is bulimic or anorexic. These are very serious illnesses in and of themselves, NOT something to be taken lightly and made into some sort of sick joke.

9. Interesting point
Another interesting point is that most bulimics (I have not heard she was anorexic, as that is a different disease) use bulimia as a form of control. When they feel they have little control over other things in their life, eating becomes the one thing they feel they can control. It is psychologically and physically demanding and dangerous. What I find ironic, is knowing the basis for most bulimics is control, that she is now in a position of absolute non-control.

11. Yes, exactly!
"not wanting to eat" or "preocuppied with appearance" are extremely oversimplified, shallow statements, yours hits the nail on the head.

12. it's not been hidden, every single story I've read (and most I've heard)
mention her eating disorder. Some specifically call it out -- others have said she would drink 10-15 glasses of ice tea a day...
