He said this to the Secret Service agents who were going to be guarding him. So what? you might ask. Well for one it was a hot summer day and ski season was a long way off, certainly way past the upcoming election. Plus there was a history concerning Vice Presidents and skiing.

Dan Quayle was also a skier and it had created a problem for the Secret Service to find Agents who could keep up with him, eventually they did. The sorts of people who do ski tend to be white, wealthy and Republican.

Jack Kemp was using code words to pack his detail with Agents that had guarded Quayle. Why would he do that?
