Listening to some wingnut radio host last night was great...

I flipped on WABC NY which is the station with Limbaugh and Hannity. Not sure who does the evening show but the guy was spinning and spinning and you could tell it ate at every inch of his being to have to make excuses. I only caught one portion where a liberal caller called in and was just harrassing him to no end. And intelligently at that. The host was like "Well, I don't know...I mean I don't agree with it but I don't know as much as Dr. Frist" And the caller started yelling "He's not a neurologist and he only saw a video tape from hundreds of miles away!" and the host just kept going "Well, yeah....but I dont' know". It was so much fun listening to a conservative host scramble and not be able to blame Dems or liberals. Except when he said "Well promise me this if she dies you won't do what you guys did at the Wellstone funeral." I knew when he hit that note that he was done altogether and had reached rock bottom (not a far trip).

It was nice to listen to for a change and I never listen to RW radio.

normally they have better call screeners than that so the libruls don't get on at all.

And if they do permit "liberal" callers, they often air people that are overly emotional and unable to articulate a coherent point. This allows the audience to hear the preferred propaganda-- "liberals don't have a sound or worthy argument." I've heard this technique used on Hannity's radio show.

3. I've been tuning into Jay Severin the past few days...

I listened to him for a few weeks on 96.9 Boston last fall when a neighbor made the comment "oh, you listen to NPR? You must be communists!". His station of choice was 96.9 and he is an Imus in the Morning fan. So in the interest of research I tuned into 96.9 on my commute. The few weeks I listened to Severin's show I was ready to rip the radio out of my dashboard. Insufferable.

So I figured I'd venture into enemy territory again to see what the common wisdom is over there. I was shocked and amazed to find that Severin has this issue almost exactly right. Caller after caller came on the air using the standard flawed arguments for keeping the tube in and justifying the intervention. Not only did he rebuff each and every one of them, I was impressed that his arguments were based on sound reasoning rather than the usual disingenuous rhetoric you get on RW talk radio. The past few days I have actually thoroughly enjoyed listening to him.

Of course, once the Schaivo circus pulls up the tent pegs he'll probably go back to opinions that make me want to scream, but for now it's hopeful to see that there is some critical thinking going on in the enemy camp.

5. We Need To Flood Local Hate Radio Shows...

Let's all have some fun and play the Repugnican's game...and see how these "patriots" really do when confronted with their own hypocrisies.

It'd be great to see liberals and progressives flood into these hatefests and challenge these hosts...make them accountable and keep up the pressure. Many of these goons have never had anyone do that since most of us are revolted by these stations and tune out leaving them covens of hate and lies. It's our airwaves, our phone lines...let's use 'em both.

If DUers know of any real "winners" out there who would like having a 96th asshole reamed, I know several here who would love the chance....stations, times and phone numbers would be welcome. Maybe we can start a new DU fun time activity...truth squads on hate radio shows.

P.S. Don't worry about screeners...most smaller stations don't have them or they're part timers that are just glad to see the phone ring.

There's nothing more fun to listen to than a wingnut twisting in their hypocrisies.
