Finally - Schiavo will die peacefully.
The Supreme Court has denied reinsertion of the feeding tube:

U.S. Supreme Court rejects Schiavo parents' appeal
State judge who ordered feeding tube removal gets case again

Thursday, March 24, 2005 Posted: 10:40 AM EST (1540 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Thursday an appeal by the parents of Terri Schiavo to have their severely brain-damaged daughter's feeding tube reinserted.

The court, without comment, refused to intervene after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals twice Wednesday turned down a plea from the parents, Bob and Mary Schindler

The fate of Terri Schiavo is also in a waiting stage on another front -- the Florida circuit court where the judicial wrangling began seven years ago.

Schiavo's parents and her husband have been at odds over the woman's care, and the battle has drawn in religious conservatives on the side of the Schindlers to fight Michael Schiavo's efforts to let his wife die, as he says she wanted...

4. Yep - things are getting very tense @ the hospice...
The fundie spokesmen are challenging Jebster to send in the DCF despite Judge Greer's orders.

5. The freepers are going postal over at freeperland
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 11:13 AM by AussieDave
- among other choice pronouncements are that Michael Schiavo (they call him HINO but I don't know why) will die soon after his wife, that Jeb should send in the National Guard (aren't they all over in Iraq ??) and that Judge Greer and Michael's lawyer Felos should be thrown in jail for fraud.

I know I shouldn't but I've been reading the threads at freeperland for the last couple of days and it really makes me wonder just what planet these people inhabit - all that praying (nothing wrong with praying, but a sense of balance, please !!) and fuming and attacking the SCOTUS, Jeb, W Dems, EVERYBODY - they are in grave danger of spinning off into orbit.

If these are representative of the 59 million who allegedly voted for W, heaven help us all........

6. A guess on the HINO
is Husband in Name Only.

I'm sure they are representative of those who voted for Bush. They're probably 100% of his votes right there! The rest of the 59 million are...questionable.

8. Good point on HINO - you'd be right on that
thanks. And yes they would be the only ones who actually physically voted for W - Diebold would have taken care of the rest........

9. And the freepers are now questioning why there is a SCOTUS
- conveniently skating over the fact that the same body gave the freepers their precious W in the first place!!!

Hypocrisy knows no bounds.........

10. Pat Boone is the most disgusting person involved in this case.
I have seen Boone (the "Christian" singing star) on CNN twice now....as much as declaring that Michael Schiavo is murdering his wife to cover up some awful truth he doesn't want her to reveal if she recovers....Last night on Larry King's show (with a substitute host, Pixley) he said it and nobody confronted him on it...They just let the statement lie there....Pat Boone is DISGUSTING!

11. Terri Shiavo died a long time ago.
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 11:43 AM by Donald Ian Rankin
I don't feel all that strongly about removing the feeding tube, to be honest. It would be nice if her wishes could be honoured, but it's no worse than failing to dispose of someone's corpse in the way they requested.

I suppose it's arguably an important precedent, and obviously whatever decision is reached will have a great deal of impact on her survivors, but the right to die of someone who is to all intents and purposes already dead is far less important that that off someone who is still sentient, I think.

I feel very strongly indeed that if I ever end up, for example, without any motor control permanently but still conscious (I think it's called "locked-in syndrome"?) I should be being killed painlessly as quickly as possible, but if I don't really care what is done to me if I end up genuinely brain dead, (although I recognise that some people do).

13. The GOP wants to artificially block the natural dying process.
Death, in many cases (including Terri Schiavo's), is a welcomed anodyne. Any reasonable person understands this. Schiavo is nothing but a surrogate in the right-wing's fantasy of being champions of the "sanctity of life." In truth, they are anything but. Bu$h's Christian flock have been badly used on this issue. But not as badly used as Terri Schiavo and her family. One of many sad things is that once gone, Terri Schiavo (like Karen Ann Quinlan, the first modern icon of the right-to-die debate) will be relegated to the marginalia of the right-wing mind.

17. How ironic
that they could bankrupt the entire nation by spending all our resources on a.) killing people in Iraq and elsewhere but b.) keeping every dying person on permanent life support regardless of cost.

How stupid is that?

Oh, I forgot. It's fundies; they IS stupid.
