The police put handcuffs on the children trying to bring water to Schiavo.
The question is why did they play into this drama? Why not arrest the parents for traspassing and file a complaint with child services to take custody of the children? And why isn't child services in Flordia and Jeb Bush not the least concerned about parents who would use their children in this way?

3. Agreed - if this family were using the kids to run drugs...
...DCF would yank them immediately. What's the difference in using your kids to break the law in this case?

4. You ask why? Why not use children to sell your cause...
As a parent I was outraged when I saw those children being arrested and that handcuffs were used. IMO the repugs will do whatever it takes to get their message across - as disgusting as it is/was, they will do it. (And they call use monsters!) :eyes:

5. I'm not quite as fussed about it...
After a point the civil rights movement in the 1960's used kids to confront the police, too. However I think the use of children in this case won't do their cause any good. It's all part of the theatre, I guess.

8. And The Kids Used In The Civil Rights Protests Were In Infinitely More
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 07:08 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
Danger...

Somebody should link the pictures from Birmingham where Bull Connor ordered the use of firehoses on protesters many of whom were children...

In fact Malcom X criticized Dr. King for allowing children to be used this way... Actually Malcom found little that was worthy about the whole non violent protest movement prior to his conversion to true Islam...

The children involved in this incident are being treated humanely...

That being said they should have been left out of it....

15. MLK said of 'using' the children at Birmingham
most of these children are Baptists....many Baptist children accept Jesus and are baptized (total immersion) when they are 6,7,8,9,10....if they are old enough to make this eternal choice, they are old enough to decide if they wish to march to help their parents and grandparents register to vote

as I understand it, the children wanted to participate....after bus loads were arrested, Bull Conners got fed up and turned on the fire hoses and turned loose the policemen with dogs

7. It's the parents who encouraged them to do this who
should be cuffed. It's amazing , these fundi assholes are not content to use a a poor woman in a Permanent Vegetative State to push their radical extremist theocratic agenda, now they are using their own children. My disgust for these people continues to grow. Evangelicalism is a cancer on our society. It must be excised.

11. I didn't say evangelicals should be excised.
I said Evangelicalism should be excised.

13. Me to.
I didn't mean to offend you. I apologize if I did. I get really upset when I see these people trying to make their religious beliefs the law of the land. I really am not opposed to religion or Christianity. I am opposed to fundamentalism. Perhaps I should have said 'Fundamentalism' instead of 'Evangelicalism'

10. I saw it on tv. Police were very, very ginger with the handcuffs on the
kids. Made sure to do it on camera too. Smart.

The worst thing about demonstrations is when police get 'baited'. Baiting should be a crime unto itself. The more provocative demonstrations there are.. the easier it is for Bush and his ilk to use that to marginalize demonstrationa away from him.

I also do not think one person should be hurt or die in a demonstration.
