Diebold is celebrating being chosen to provide three new customized high-tech vaults to secure the original copies of the Charters of Freedom: the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Diebold Inc. will construct three customized high-tech vaults to protect the Charters of Freedom: the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, at the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C., officials announced recently.

The archive renovation will include an overhaul of the security system safeguarding the charters, eliminating the steps in the Rotunda so these important documents of American history are accessible to all visitors. The transformation will also include a redesign of the permanent exhibit cases so all four pages of the U.S. Constitution can be prominently displayed, says Adrienne Thomas, assistant archivist for administrative services.

To complement the installation of the vaults, Diebold also will install a physical security system that includes a customized retraction system, allowing these priceless documents to be displayed during the day and retracted into a secure vault overnight. In case of an emergency, the system will quickly retract into the vault when activated by security personnel, notes Bart Frazzitta, vice president and general manager of physical security at Diebold.

The security retraction system will be installed on a contract basis, the first phase of which includes design and development of three separate vaults and retraction systems. Phase two, which includes a one-year service and warranty
agreement, includes the manufacture and installation of the three separate vaults. The final phase of the project consists of a service and warranty contract for the vaults for years two through 10.

1. If these "vaults"
are as secure as the electronic voting machines they make, then there goes our national treasures. Oh well, as Jay Leno remarked....we aren't using the Constitution anyway. Why bother to preserve those documents ? Perhaps they want to put them in vaults...so out of sight, out of mind. Our grandchildren will never know about them.

I am getting just real sick of Diebold and Halliburton, and Enron and the assholes of this world.

2. They will build these vaults...
so they can piss on these documents in secret the way they piss on our democracy in public.
