Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) Says Cruz Bustamante to "Give CA Back to Mexico"
"Remarks that Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., made about the recall race have raised the ire of Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn. In arguing for Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock to end his campaign, "I was saying I hated to see the Democrats and especially Gray Davis keep control, and Bustamante may want to give California back to Mexico -- I said that tongue in cheek," Burton told the Los Angeles Times. Lieberman, a presidential candidate who supports Bustamante in case Davis is kicked out, called on President Bush on Friday to repudiate Burton's remarks. "For Dan Burton to suggest Cruz wants to return the state to Mexico is itself an effort to return America to a divisive time," Lieberman said in a statement."

Please write to your local newspaper in CA to denounce Republican racism against our first elected Latino statewide official, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. This is nothing short of a fascist, Nazi-style race-baiting campaign. Rep. Burton should immediately issue a formal apology to Cruz Bustamante, and Schwarzenegger and McClintock should condemn Rep. Burton's comments.

2. It's raw racism right now. They will do and say anything to get
McClintock in. Failing that, they will settle for Ahnold.

3. It's All the Rage
First in LBN, now here. For the record, here's a rebuttal from an unfriendly (to Cruz) source, Ruben NAVARRETTE, somebody I usually don't agree with, since he is one more Affirmative Action product who finds his way into disagreeing with most things Democratic and pretzeling himself into tortured support for all things Shrub.

.... Today at colleges around the country you're likely to find better attendance at a meeting of the Hispanic Business Students Association. Those who do join MEChA are likely to find a majority of the organization's time and energy dedicated to planning festivals, forums and folklorico dancing.

Now, I ask you, is that any way to lead a revolution?

Just don't try telling any of this to the gaggle of right-wing pundits who have convinced themselves that MEChA is all about racial separatism and the Chicano equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan or the Nazis. It all started when syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin incorrectly identified the group's motto as: Por La Raza todo. Fuera de la Raza nada. (For the Mexican people everything, for others nothing.) Actually, the phrase comes from "El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan," a poem espousing Chicano nationalism that emerged at a Chicano youth conference in Denver in March 1969. MEChA wasn't founded until the following month at another conference in Santa Barbara. Its real motto is, La Union Hace La Fuerza (Unity Creates Strength). ....

7. Burton is also a hypocrite. He criticized Clinton's sex scandals
and then was exposed for doing the same.

6. I see Rep. Burton is helping the GOP court Hispanic voters...
... with his chicken-little "the sky is falling" remark about California. That'll really sway them on voting day.

Let Mr. Burton make all the silly comments he wants. They can only help Bustamante's campaign.

9. The Paranoid Xenophobes crack me up
One thing that I know for sure is the Repukes :puke: didn't leave no brain trust in California at their departure.

When so many of them pulled out out of Califorinia and moved to the surrounding states they made a big mistake in forgeting to take the rest of wingnuts with them.

Trying to play the Race card and woo the swing voters at the same time (it will never work).

11. I hate to say it...
but let's give Lieberman SOME credit for criticising Burton's remarks.

Either way, I think this is good for democrats. Some hispanics have been flirting with Bush and the GOP lately in both Ca and Tx. We should let them know what scum the GOP really is. I'm sure they'd love having their loyalty to this nation questioned.

Why does it seem to me that the GOP has woefully mishandled the recall issue?
