Tell me: Is there one Rethug who CARES about the people?.

Just one. Come on, there must be ONE out there. In the Senate or the House.

Let's see who served:
McKinley. Harding. Hoover. Nixon. Agnew. Reagan. Bush. Quail. GW Bush. Cheney.

Is there one who cared for the people? Well, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower did. That's all.

Now look at the Dems: Wilson, FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, Humphrey, Carter, Mondale, Clinton, Gore. All cared. All great in their own way.

As for the Dem candidates, all of them make Bush look like a nasty juvenile, which he is.

1. None are coming to mind
I think that their National platform is against that sort of thing. George Voinovich seemed like a nice guy when I met him but I don't think he has a very good record of supporting the little guy. Some definitely care more than others, but I think the higher up they are, the less they care. Since it is a Democratic party value to stand up for the people, more high level Democrats do care.

It's a bit elitist and self congratulatory for you to believe that only those with your viewpoint care about others. It seems you assume that anyone with a different philosophy than yours can not possibly care about the people. Much like many "peace" groups in America can not fathom how anyone who supports a strong military (deterrance) also support peace. When you realize it is a question of means rather than ends, can cannot dismiss their argument out of hand, and must take a look at empirical evidence and historical precedent to see if your philosophy has actually been effective in practice. When you realize the right simply has a different vision of how to bring it about the same ends, your worldview may require an adjustment. On the war/peace issue, some think unilateral disarmament and peace talks are the way to go to avoid war...Some see these as fruitless (and wreckless) gestures that will only invite hostile forces to take action. They believe human nature requires a physical deterrent to prevent war between nations. It's the same deal on the social welfare issue, and practically every other political issue. I know many pubs who care about the poor..and they show it with monthly contributions/volunteer activities for local charities. Many want to help the poor..but they see charity as the way to do it, not taxation and redistribution, which is coercive and immoral.

</devils advocate mode off>

On a personal note, I think the pubs are WRONG on this issue. I believe government must play a role in promoting equality and a decent standard of living...even if it means doing it by force. The pukes believe that charity and the "market" are better tools to handle this. I've learned that it's all a question of means, not ends.

BTW, I learned this little philisophical lesson by reading a book by a right winger named Thomas Sowell. Title is: Vision of the Annointed
I recommend every DUer pick it up at the bookstore or library. Those who don't know their opponent's arguments can never fully understand there own.

Still, I'm prepared for the flames and freeper accusations over this post. Let them fly.

2. The governor of Alabama is one, it seems
Rep. Ron Paul of Texas might be another. He recently gave a speech on the House floor railing against the neocon statists.

3. I'd agree with those two
I'd throw McCain's name in there, too, primarily on the strength of his campaign finance position.

Repukes
care about people with big bank accounts - the upper 1%. They don't give a shit about anybody else.

The vast majority of repuke voters are voting against their own self-interest.

4. Lincoln Chaffee
he's opposed every insane idea of Bush that's driving the nation into ruin.

Jeffords obviously did, hence the switch.

5. Rep. Chris Shays (r) Conn. of those currently serving. He's more moderate.
Maine senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins better than most GOPers.
