Springer's Talk Radio Show to Expand - Air America
Springer's Talk Radio Show to Expand
By LISA CORNWELL, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, March 23, 2005

(03-23) 16:49 PST CINCINNATI, (AP) --

More people will be able to hear trash TV talk show host Jerry Springer pick on President Bush's plan to create private accounts for Social Security and the war in Iraq under a deal announced Wednesday to take his liberal radio program nationwide.

"I said when I started the show that I am committed to making this radio program work, not only because I enjoy it, but because we need to hear progressive voices as well as conservative voices in our conversation today," Springer said in a telephone interview from Chicago.

Springer's show will go live weekdays on the Air America Radio network beginning April 1.

1. I REALLY wish his TV show wasn't such a freak fest...
I know he's an intelligent progressive in "real life".. but I hate the way he exploits the ignorant and angry for our "amusement".

10. I'm with you
I love his radio show. It's really good and he handles republicans very well. He's not like Rhandi, Mike or Bernie but he doesn't let them get away with stuff.

His smutty TV show has pretty much destroyed any political credibility he might have had in my eyes, but whatever...

4. So I guess he'll be taking the Unfiltered spot?
I can't imagine where else AAR might put him.

5. Only if they dont change the schedule.
They might very well make bigger moves, shuffle talent, change time slots etc.

But if they dont, Id assume unfiltered as well.

20. ... but one rumor says Rachel may replace Janeane
In another thread -- perhaps on this board, I forget -- there is a report that Janeane is going to L.A. for a pilot. If it gets picked up, the rumor is that Rachel would replace her on THE MAJORITY REPORT with Sam Seder. And considering how many times Seder pulled a double shift during Randi Rhodes' recovery, it makes sense.

Frankly, I found UNFILTERED unexciting, and the times I've tried to listen to Springer I couldn't stream him, so I'll give him a listen.

Plus, apparently they're coming back to Chicago next week (although they may be bumping MAJORITY REPORT for Ed Schultz, who does nothing for me), so it's all good to me!

I'm turning AA off unless they ditch Springer. I will have NO association with that vicious huckster who exploited people and degraded our very culture.

12. Gerry Springer was a talented Liberal Host before he went to TV and
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 11:46 PM by applegrove
turned into a cartoon character. I think the point is that they need people who are radio-talented to make this a go. I do not get Air America.. but I know that in Canada the talent of the Host makes mountains of difference in how popular the show is and many people follow it.

There was a radioshow on CBC in Canada done by a Radio Host named Peter Gwoski. He had the voice, intonation and journalistic ability to make every moment fascinating (even recipes for chicken soup ended up fascinating). Canadians were totally transfixed and adored the show. Three hours in the morning. They quickly repackaged the show and played a shorter version during prime time at night. Mostly small stories. The poor guy kept trying to quit because he was so bored. But his producers knew what talent they had and that he was irreplaceable. So they kept luring him back. Any he finally retired and died of emphysema. They have been trying one thing or another to replace him for years. And they had people willing to try for years one way or another to listen. But it just not the same without that specific talent. And those three hours of the day are now like any three hours of the day in the morning. They are no longer gold.

So your talent has to be talented and on radio that means something much different than in other formats. They have to be addictive in POV and voice aside from being good at so many other things. I think it is a smart thing to bring Gerry back. If his show takes off the past will become totally erased. And the young may be more forgiving.

Giving someone with such 'talent' three hours ..if you think you can build it into something national and with a life of its own is invaluable. Aside from having always been liberal, Gerry has also been a politician. People will forget if his show continues to march along. And the young ones will soon not even know that he had a past as a TV HO that exploited the troubles of others. (Who knows maybe the guy got some insight into the minds of your lower income exhibitionist freeper while he was at it).

13. Allowing Springer on AA tarnishes us all.
Springer exploited the worst aspects of society for profit. He will never be acceptable in my book.

TURN AIR AMERICA OFF UNTIL THEY TURN SPRINGER OFF

That's my new motto

21. How is the degradation of our culture "progressive"
How is the exploitation of unfortunate people progressive?

Is a man who made his money off a carnival style freak show that encouraged violence someone who you want to represent you?

17. I felt the same way but his show is actually really good
I think since such a large portion of his tv audience are the republicans that should be Democrats it may be a good way to attract people to AAR that may not usually listen. Then they will get our message. Judging from the way he left Cincy and started his tv show I think he was just going through a mid life crises and now seems to want to get back on track. He is truly outraged by this admin and really wants to do whatever he can to help get his country back. IMHO, of course

23. Here's some proud moments from his movie, Ringmaster
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 12:15 AM by Must_B_Free
# Angel unexpectedly walks in on a man in his hotel room. He tells her that she doesn't have to leave, and so she kneels down before him, works on his zipper, and then has oral sex with him (we only see his pleasured reaction, but also hear related sexual sounds). This man later tells Angel that his buddy told him to get a room on a certain floor (knowing that's where Angel worked) if he wanted to "get a good blow job."
# A woman comments about a man with a "d*ck the size of a needle" on a segment of Jerry's show where a person claims they're pregnant by another woman's husband.
# As Rusty tries to make moves on the willing Angel, he says, "Baby, I need it."
# We see Vonda having sex on top of Demond (under the sheets) with lots of movement and sounds. When Starletta walks in on them, Demond hops out of bed and we see the side of his bare butt as well as him holding something in front of his groin area.
# A woman flashes her bare breasts at Jerry in a restaurant.
# We see two bare-breasted women on Jerry's show (one of whom also wears a thong-like bottom). The two eventually and graphically French kiss each other.
# A man asks whether Jerry's show ever does episodes about people who are attracted to farm animals.
# After Connie has left, Rusty and Angel comment on "doing it on the big bed tonight." We then see her (in her high cut bikini underwear) on top of him on the bed and he tells her to do "that thing your momma won't do."
# Angel and Rusty have sex under the sheets with movement and sounds, but no nudity.
# Connie goes to Willie, kneels down in front of him (outside) and performs oral sex on him. We not only see his pleasured reaction, but also a shot from behind her that shows her moving her head at his crotch.
# Later, Angel tells her mom, "I didn't say you could borrow my jacket." Connie responds, "I didn't say you could f*ck my husband." She then acts like she has some semen on the jacket and comments on "how much stuff comes out." Connie then throws a used diaphragm to Angel, stating that she borrowed it (and we later learn that Rusty got Angel pregnant because she didn't have it to use during sex).
# We hear a woman moaning "Oh Jerry" and then see a woman having sex on top of him under the sheets.
# We see Connie in her bra, and other instances of Angel in her high cut, bikini underwear or tightfitting tops and cut off jeans.
# Rusty gives Willie some advice on how to keep Angel happy and sticks his tongue out and rapidly moves it (implying oral sex).
# We see part of a woman's bare butt as she shows Jerry her tattoo on it.
# Angel makes a comment that includes the phrase, "suck him off."
# Angel and Demond have sex with her on top of him (and sounds, but no nudity).
# A question is asked, "Did you ever f*ck a girl and her mother on the same night?"
# Troy makes out with a drag queen (a man dressed like a woman) and we later hear that the two had sex (with Troy not knowing it was a guy). We also later see this man wearing a bra and panties.
# Connie admits to getting pregnant when she was fifteen.
# As Connie and Angel spot their new "hunk" neighbor, Angel comments that the man has really big feet (implying something about the size of another part of his anatomy).

Here's anopther of Springer's "progressive moments":
When Grace Quek first appears in Lewis's documentary, it is through footage from television's "The Jerry Springer Show". She is highly strung, manic, and surprisingly inarticulate for a university graduate. Unfortunately, she also plays the part of the giggly, girlie, breathy women stuck in Lolita overdrive only too well - hardly the model of self-empowerment and sober level-headedness that is needed to carry the message of pro-sex feminism to the world. When Springer announced to his audience that the woman sitting before them had had sex with 251 men, they were agog, speechless, before erupting into the simian hooting which characterises that proletariat show. Chong read their response as some kind of support and acts accordingly, but close-ups of the audience reveal another less digestible fact.

Kendra The Stripper Talks About Her Jerry Springer Experience. 9/1/98. 7:40am
Kendra the stripper who has been on the show a couple times in the past came in to talk about her experience with talk show host Jerry Springer. You may remember hearing about how Springer was video taped in a hotel with a stripper having sex. Well, Kendra is the stripper he was with. Kendra also dated Mike Gange for a little while. She talked about that later in the show. Before she got into everything Howard noticed that Kendra has gotten breast implants. She has huge D-cup breasts now. She also said that she got a nose job around the same time. She spent about $12,000 for the two operations. So anyway, the last time Kendra was in she wasn't allowed to talk about the Jerry Springer experience but this time she could. She went into detail about how Jerry brought her into his dressing room after she appeared on his show with her Mother and Step Mother. She explained how she gave Jerry oral sex in the dressing room. Howard had Kendra get into a bathing suit while she was there. She changed into it right in front of Howard. He said that he's going to put this interview on the new Saturday night show this week. After the oral sex Kendra and Jerry kept in touch with each other. Kendra would give Jerry phone sex for hours at a time. Then Kendra was scheduled to do the Springer show again. Some reporter from ''The News Of The World'' ended up talking Kendra into letting them hook some video cameras up in her hotel room to catch Springer having sex with her. She claims that she was scared into doing it and she tried to warn Jerry about it but it didn't work. Jerry came up to her room and worked his way into giving Kendra oral sex. The funny thing was that she had just done a gang bang movie the day before with 80 guys! Jerry was putting his face where 80 guys had just been the day before! Kendra returned the favor and gave him oral sex. Jerry was having trouble getting an erection so he ended up getting some lotion and trying to get himself off. That's all on video but Kendra claims she never got a copy. Kendra's step mother was in the room for all of that so she called in near the end of the interview. She didn't have much to add though. Then Mike Gange came in to talk about his nightmare with Kendra and her friend. He was banging Kendra but broke up with her when she started to ''scare'' him. Her friend Shea was leaving all kinds of weird messages on his answering machine. Shea was there to yell at Gange again today. She said that she didn't like Mike from day one. Gange was impressed with Kendra's new boobs but said that it looked like she was ''packing a little more junk in the trunk'' meaning that her ass was a little big. She said that she'd never sleep with him again. Gange seemed surprised by that. Kendra has a couple of porno tapes out. One is a reenactment of her Jerry Springer thing called ''Too Hot For Porno'' and another tape by the name of ''John T. Bone's World's Biggest Bang Off'' or something like that. Check your local adult video store.

22. Why don't you spend time fighting
the corporate media that spends countless hours doing equally sensational coverage of Michael Jackson and the celebrity scandal du jour instead of fighting against a liberal with an extremely effective message.

18. This is great news, remember AAR isnt for us, it is for OTHER people
the point is to get our voice into the ears of other people, not to have the best possible radio station for DU users. We need a vioice to compete with limbough, and if Jerry Springer can bring ears to AAR, so be it. Even if his past is less than sterling, this would do a world of good. I dont see any reason not to embrace anyone who can draw an audience to listen to a progressive.

19. This is great news!
I had no idea Springer had his own radio show. He's an extremely articulate, intelligent and effective speaker. And yes he does know how to appeal to working class, red state, and rural voters along with the kind of trailer trash voters who appear on his show. I was in Ohio when he was considering a run for US Senate and the things he was saying are exactly what the Democratic Party message needs to be.

I'm also confident the fans of his show outnumber the self-righteous fuddie duddies who condemn it. Springer is classier than the cable news stations that constantly follow the Michael Jackson and other celebrity trials 24/7.
