Is there an unspoken crisis where people eligible for SS today can "barely get it?" - that's what several cspan callers - railing against illegal immigrants claimed... and if there is this crisis (which I have never heard of before) - why is it so easy for illegals to get it (they asserted that the illegals are getting SS while "we" can barely get it...)

Most RW lies contain a bit of partial truth - it is Grover and Rove's way of telling the media "it was not a 'lie'".

In this case an illegal Getting an SS number amounts to telling an SS office a lie - but that is done. More often an already issued real number for a legal American is used. In the former case the SS payroll withholding would be tracked and a benefit due based on those taxes when the illegal retired. In the latter case there is effectively no record and never a benefit.

drivers' licenses for illegals is a hot topic - many feel it is the better alternative to having untested drivers on the road. A few states may currently allow - but they are very few in number, if any.


A few States do not tie State Scholarships to legal status - so some of the college/educational expense could be paid by tax dollars. But then the parents are most likely using a fake SS and paying withholding on income for their income tax - a tax they do not file for refunds on.

if you are disabLed now, you get reviewed every 6 months - they aLso make it hard and tricky for SSI dependents to stay on it; the forms are confusing (or the wrong forms, wrong instructions, and wrong return adresses) - which is piss poor when considering some of the dependents can't reaLLy do paper work.

In most states, there's Sales Tax--going up again here in Texas, with no State Income Tax.

Even if most of them do NOT own property--landlords DO pass on increases in property taxes. We renters pay our share, as well.

In Texas, school financing has traditionally come from property taxes--the burden is being shifted more to sales tax. If any of MY tax money is going to help "illegal children" get educated, I don't mind at all. They're here. Most of them will become citizens--unless they die in Iraq first.

however, especially if they're using soemone elses'soc sec number along with other false documents. This would mean a windfall in collections for SSI, and in payouts for folks whose ss#s are being used.
