Not that I don't care about her situation. I had to disconnect my own mother, so I know how that feels. It hurts like hell.

Our energy is being eroded by this fight when so many things are happening. Things which affect millions of people and not just one person.

Would you swim out to help one drowning victim or drop a raft where you could help many?

2. um...terri is in your headline.
I agree with you though...that terri is probably a distraction, but they are still trying to erode the courts and we need to pay attention.

4. But this affects us all. Do you think you have the right to determine
what happens to your body? If so, does your state have the right to determine if that will you left is valid?

Well, ho ho ho...Merry Christmas. Surprise is on you. Now the Congress can step in, if it doesn't like the outcome, and change your state's determination of your will, your body, your life.

It's a state's rights vs. federal government constitutional issue.

5. I am NOT my body....I know that.
Once I am "gone", I will not give a hang what happens to my body.

14. Then be prepared to surrender your say over what happens
to your body ANY TIME, and surrender separation of powers while you're at it.

11. However
chatting about Schiavo and keeping the story alive will do damage to the likes of delay and his sanctimonious blatherings about valuing life. If we keep posting about Schiavo and the gop loses value in the eyes of Americans then I say well done to DUERS.

This is, IMO, the biggest crisis facing us right now.

18. I think the economy tanking and jobs leaving are the biggest issues.
People out of work, losing their homes, their health....those are very large issues.

Talk radio is going on and on, Terry's husband this and Terry's husband that...specutation that he tried to strangle her and that she has evidence of broken bones, when the family says she was never injured that they knew of, Michael wants her cremated immediately after...he's living with someone...just wants her out of the way...blah....blagh...abauuughhhh

17. We should pay attention
this will probably turn out to be one of the worst things that have happened to the pukes in a long time.
My normally far right newspaper has been full of opt-ed and letters to the editor referring to the TS debacle as one of the worst offenses taken by government. The ultimate in hypocrisy.

24. I know, I know...already regretting it.
I had managed to not post on any of the other Terri threads, but had my fill of them. If this issue can sink the RW, I am all for it.
I am just scared for those losing their jobs every day, losing their homes and are forced living on the streets. I saw these are larger issues.
Look at Andy and where he is at with no health insurance. He is alive and taking on issues head on which nobody else did.
In addition, lack of health insurance, the deficit, bankruptcy reform...I could go on.

27. Since This Complaint Is Repetition, I Will Repeat

It's not the particulars of her case that are the issues. The issues for us are the POLITICAL ones--starting last week with how our wingnut adversaries were blowing this up into something to use against us. But the deal REALLY ESCALATED in political importance when they went to the extreme of PASSING LEGISLATION about it, on many levels:

1) First of all, their usual anti-democracy METHODS, doing it withOUT quorums, in the middle of the night, trying for voice votes instead of roll calls, labeling the Bill as NOT A PRECEDENT FOR ANYTHING ELSE (like in Florida 2000).

2) A SERIOUS assault on democracy, our system of government: Ignoring the rule of law, attempting to subvert the court system because they didn't like an outcome.

3) A SERIOUS assault on individual rights and liberties, the government interfering with private decisions and acting as agent for religious fundamentalists. (For cynical political gain.)

As for the "distraction" issue: We know that. But it is HAPPENING. Not to respond to the wingnuts is to vacate the field. In the related issues that there are MORE IMPORTANT things going on: Well, we are able to multi-task. As for the saps-our-fight: Well, if we are that FRAIL, we deserve to lose.

As I said in "Alerting" on this thread: You can ALERT the threads you don't like; IGNORE them; or complain to the Admin forum. There have been MANY threads with the same complaint.
