7. Makes me nostalgic
I lived in Portland from June 1993 to August 2003, and I participated in several such protests. Portland really knows how to turn out the demonstrators!

12. Well, the Oregonian has much to atone for
I don't think they've ever apologized for their fatuous editorial back at the beginning of 2003, when they characterized the war protestors as "naive" and they were buying the Bush administration line of bullshit. They've been coming around v-e-r-y slowly in the last six months or so, but change doesn't come quickly at the west's oldest newspaper.

Their story Monday made it sound like there were just a handful of ragtag dead-enders, comparing Sunday's number unfavorably with the thousands and thousands they denigrated back in 2003. They neglected to mention that the day was cold and rainy, a far cry from the weather of the last two months that has been unseasonably dry and hot, which was probably a major factor in holding down the number of demonstrators. Pictures of people were, of course, totally absent; they had one shot of some of the 1,500 cardboard tombstones the protestors laid out in the Park Blocks.

Good on the protestors. I was doing the CROP walk over in Northeast Portland that day, but I hear there's going to be a "Mission Not Accomplished" march on the May anniversary of Chimpy's Flight Suit Strut. I'll be there for that.
