Hunger Strike for Schiavo (well at least they are dedicated)

Arianna Grumbine, 19, prays as she enters her ninth day of a hunger strike in Pinellas County, Florida on March 22, 2005. Grumbine is on a hunger strike regarding Terri Schivavo, the brain-damaged woman who's feeding tube was removed March 18, 2005 by a court order in a right to die case. REUTERS/Charles W. Luzier

She also appears to the the Communications Director for a Christian Pro-Life activist group
http://www.christianpost.com/article/society/1471/section/pro-life.activists.continue.to.rally.behind.terri.schiavo.before.deadline/1.htm
Arianna Grumbine, Communications Director for Survivors—another Christian, Pro-life activist group participating in today’s vigil and demonstration—commented, "Michael Schiavo is abusing his wife by denying her basic physical needs. He has not allowed Terri physical therapy, dental care, diagnostic testing or even the opportunity to see the light or enjoy fresh air.”

“He has betrayed his wife by having an adulterous affair for over ten years,” Grumbine added.

A group of life valuing Christians dying of starvation protesting the removal of a feeding tube. I so truly enjoy a 19 year old weighing in on the rightness or wrongness of what someone else does. MS Grumbine is more living proof that youth is wasted on the young.

Any bets that MS Grumbine will not starve to death? In her honor, I think I'll eat a big ole Pizza tonight.

She also appears to be the Communications Director for a Christian Pro-Life activist group

If she's serious (as opposed to posturing) then she's prepared to die as a consequence of her hunger strike. That would be suicide. Last time I checked, most churches frowned on that sort of thing...

Not because she's on a hunger strike, let her fast all she wants. But because of what she said:

"Michael Schiavo is abusing his wife by denying her basic physical needs. He has not allowed Terri physical therapy, dental care, diagnostic testing or even the opportunity to see the light or enjoy fresh air.”

She is NOT being denied basic physical needs (except the feeding tube, NOW), he has worked on her behalf for her care ALL this time, and how is she going to enjoy fresh air??????

and I wouldn't shed a tear either, frankly -- if I shed a tear for every dead innocent I'd die of dehydration. I wasn't trying to preach or moralize. But "I wouldn't shed a tear" and "I hope they die" are two different things. One is passive and one is active. It doesn't make a difference, really, I hate verbal policing too so don't put too much weight to what I said, since I didn't intend it to be weighty. It just rubs me the wrong way to "hope" somebody starves to death who is merely a dumb freak.

Sen Rick Santorum learns about SRT
By Dona S. Dreeland, Editor July 10, 2002, Sewickley Herald Star

He called them the "counter culture," these young teens of the suburbs, fresh scrubbed and dressed in the latest casual fashions. He encouraged them to be rebellious, just as he had told recent Geneva College graduates in his commencement address.

Sen. Rick Santorum visited participants of the Silver Ring Thing (SRT) program at Christ Church at Grove Farm last week and applauded their dedication to purity and sexual abstinence until marriage.

"It takes strength and courage to make a commitment when every cultural thing tells you just the opposite," said Santorum, to an audience of teens and parents.

SRT had gotten the senator's attention as a positive, alternative influence, just as he had explained in a letter of March 12, to Sen. Ernest Hollings, chair of the appropriations committee on commerce, justice and state. There he requested $1.75 million for an expansion of this local program into 75 cities in the next seven years.

HOW 'BOUT THAT SOME OF THAT 1.75M for some healthcare you moran!???

43. Now, let's play "christian moral authority" and quote...
out of context and see what conclusion we can have.

"Michael Schiavo is abusing his wife by denying her basic physical needs."

Now, add to that: "He has betrayed his wife by having an adulterous affair for over ten years."

Ahh, I get it now, it's all about physical needs and he's "spreading his seed" with someone who isn't his wife!

Sounds like she could be advocating PVN (persistent vegetative necrophilia). In other words, you oughta be porking the animated corpse, Mike! /sarcasm

http://www.survivors.la/news4.html

We Want To Make It Really Tough

"Arianna Grumbine said that she is concerned about the effect emergency contraceptives have on young women such as herself. "As a 16-year-old high school student, I find it offensive that something many times more dangerous than birth control can be sold over the counter to me like aspirin. How would I or anyone my age be able to understand the possible consequences of this drug, especially if the pharmacist isn't telling me?"

57. Pro-Life Groups Protest Embryonic Stem Cell Research "Arianna Grumbine"

Pro-Life Groups Protest Embryonic Stem Cell Research

(CNSNews.com) - Two pro-life groups staged a sit-in outside the California office of the Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday, challenging President Bush to enforce an amendment banning embryonic stem cell research.

Survivors, a national pro-life youth organization, and the Washington, D.C.-based Christian Defense Coalition picketed the HHS office in Santa Ana, Calif., to warn the president and the GOP that it will lose pro-life and pro-family support in the midterm elections if President Bush decides to allow federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

About 50 to 60 young people attended the protest which began at 11 a.m. Pacific Time, according to Arianna Grumbine, a Survivor spokesperson. When protestors arrived at the HHS office, the doors were locked in anticipation of the protest, she said.

You know... A food for thought. If Arianna Grumbine is an advocate for pro-life, and wants to be sure Terri Schiavo's physical needs were met.... wouldn't she want to support embryonic stem cell research? i mean, there are other ways of recieving these stem cells from other than abortion, and besides... already with thousands of embryonic stem cells frozen, scientists could actually crack a cure for Terri Schiavo and give her a second chance at life..... But apparently Arianna Grumbine is witholding that right away from Terri, a right to medical treatment and possibly cure..... Maybe we should attack Arianna on that issue!

58. Sorry, Arianna, but you're not exactly "speaking truth to power"
by your action. Or your words.

Too many everyday people, regardless of political affiliation, look at you and your kind as the people in power, not the powerless.

We're sick of your victimization games.

Missionaries Underneath Schiavo's Hospital Room Ordaining that Our Mascot Live On as a Vegetable Eternally

http://benquirer.blogspot.com/

Members of the new Florida organization, M.U.S.H.R.O.O.M. L.O.V.E. (Missionaries Underneath Schiavo's Hospital Room Ordaining that Our Mascot Live On as a Vegetable Eternally), are beginning the fourth night of their hunger strike outside Terri Schiavo's hospital room.

M.U.S.H.R.O.O.M. L.O.V.E is demanding that Schiavo's feeding tube be reinserted, or else they will also starve to death. Although Schiavo's body will suffer as much as any dying vegetable, today Schiavo's M.U.S.H.R.O.O.M. friends were groaning from sharp hunger pangs.

88. LOL
"Look at me, I'm using a vegetable woman to distract Americans from the fact that thousands die every day as the result of my party's policies!" screamed an unidentified congressional staffer as he wiped his ass with the American flag. "Old Glory wipes four times softer than Charmin," he said.

In other news, reports of a glowing Terri Schiavo walking on water and turning hospital Jell-O into wine have been greatly exaggerated.

So she's going on a hunger strike in protest of the Schiavo mess. Bully for her. At least she's taking a stand. I admire the gusto, if not the wasted energy on an unwinnable and untenable position.
